Good news guys the barrel is now fully repaired!! Took the advice and stuffed the barrel with some high pressure grease (bit overkill but it was free from work haha) lots of twisting it into ignition but it just got easier and easier everytime i engaged it and steering lock is now lovely and smooth!...

Maybe grease is a better option that wd40 il try that and if not replace the barrel. Thank you. Another great forum by the sounds of it! I look forward to being a part of it!
