Yep, if you get the Tapatalk app, find the YamahaR group, you can view the forum on there and post pics quickly from your phone.

Yep if your taking pics on your phone tapatwat is the easiest and quickest way of posting pictures it's just fucking wank at everything else especially viewing forums :lol:

The guy i bought it off had left had moved house and didnt have time for it and it was left in a cold garage with next to no fuel in the tank for 12 month so it had started to rust. The inline filter was clean so nothing has got though as its not been run up. Im in no rush at the moment to ride it so i took the tank off and washed it out then filled it with vinegar - its been about 24 hours now and it really is eating the rust away :shock: I think another 24 hours and it should be like new.

Yep i hope summer comes early mate its been a long winter this time.

Many times on my 2004 R1 and many more times with the other half on the FJR - thats a great bike for two up, ive had it 12 years now and she's a keeper, you can still have some good fun on it.

That's good if it's easily fixed. It might be worth cleaning the float bowls as well if you're that way inclined, which would also give you the chance to fit #15 pilot jets. I keep meaning to write a thread about it ...

Yes i might well do that but ideally i would like to ride it as it was made before doing the conversion. Ive never ridden a 4XV before only the later R1's, when they came out i was far too poor with a new mortgage to do more than look at one :lol:

I understand that, but the US bikes had 15 pilot jets as standard. No one seems to know why UK spec bikes had the larger ones, as did the Australian model like mine.

It's an interesting issue, what mods to do to "iconic" bikes like the 4xv. Upgrading the rear shock has certainly improved the cornering, but has taken away some of the character, if you consider unintended wheelies and tank slappers to be character. Changing the pilots takes away some of the step in power delivery at 8k, but it gets to 8k quicker, and doesn't bog at the lights on a hot day.

Anyway, I like mine how it is now. Just need to find enough $$$ to do something about the forks ...

Every bike ive ever owned ive had custom suspension built either by Ktec or Maxton but like you say Moise it costs ££££ even my FJR has Maxton forks and a Nitron rear shocker. Ive already spoke to maxton about the rear shock on my 4xv - he reported that they had done many back in the day inc the late great David Jeffries IOM winning bikes. He said the rear shock is under sprung and has hardly any damping for the first 1/3 of the stroke = wheelies and tank slappers but they cant get the parts so only a replacement is the way to go. However he did say that if i wanted to keep it looking original he can fit a heavier spring to stop the flighty front end. So i may do that to keep it looking original and have the forks revalved and resprung. Ill probably decide by the end of this summer. I dont ride as hard as i used to or as many miles - age and health sorted that for me :(

The 5pw shock looks almost identical, has a heavier spring and better damping. My plan was to have it serviced, but it's good enough for me. I bought it for $40 from the US, and it looks like new. Much better than the 50,000 mile original!
