O yes now the tank and carbs are clean it was the last thing on my list. I bought a genuine filter from Malaysia, it was the right price but took ages to come

Partzilla in the US have good postage rates, and they normally ship in 1 or 2 days. It cost $6.99 to send the oil pan and header gaskets to NZ, so the total cost was US$34, or about half of the local prices.

Thanks Redjj i am to be fair she looks lovely - not perfect and has some age related scars but for a 19 year old bike im very happy, She's defo keeper.

When i started looking i was certain i wanted a red and white but as time went on i started to like the blue more but to be fair i would have been happy with either.

I had forgotten how small they were compared to the Blade of that year and how advanced the R1 was for the time, i think it is truly a iconic bike.

Looks good - a couple of minor things. There should be a "YAMAHA" decal on the nose cone between the headlights and windscreen. And it looks like the indicators might be swapped back to front - the longer stalks should be at the rear.

As Moise says wait until you ride it , they're lovely and well mannered up to 4,500rpm then they become nippy and fun , at 8-9000 rpm hold on and enjoy as they start to get another wild
I've only just noticed your front paddock stand , get rid ! Mine was horrible , I made do for quite a while but I had the forks slip off a few times and you really don't want to damage that beautiful bike ! I know you have the abba stand but if you do want to use a front paddock stand I'd highly recommend a headstock stand , I was lucky to acquire a good quality headstock stand and it's brilliant

Thanks Moise - its defo been painted at some time or other i presume because it looks like it fell off the side stand at some point in its life - the tank is the original paint but i did wonder whether the decals were right. that might be the reason the indicators were mistakenly swapped round, never noticed that good spot.

Neither of my 4xv's have the yamaha decal on the nose cone. Fowlers does not show one either.

So i had a look in the manuals - factory does not show anything, i could find, but my Haynes shows the rears bolted and the front screwed, it also clearly shows the fronts have longer stalks than the back. However Fowlers shows the rears bolted and the front screwed as normal but the rear stalks are shown as longer

Only the original 4xv's with the graffiti decals have them, not the 99 models.

My 4xv came with flush mount front indicators and an integrated tail light with the original indicators in a box. I just put them back on as they fitted, but the fiche clearly shows the rears have the longer stalks.

Could someone with an unmolested 4xv please confirm which is the right way round? It wouldn't be the first time the parts fiche is wrong.

I think the fiche is wrong about the indicators - the photos in the original road tests show the longer stalks on the front.

I wonder what you get if you order a front indicator?

bike looks superb mate.
just like my old 98 back in 2000.
superb bike.mine suffered the dreaded 2nd gear fek up so i traded in for a brand new 5pw.
one of the best bikes ive ever owned that blue 4xv.my 1st ever road bike after passing my test.
had sooo much fun on the old girl.

i did an mot history check and askmids insurance check last night and shes still on the road bless her with 60k on the clock!!

Hi guys well its been 6 years since i gave up my ACU and track bike due to health and 12 years since ive ridden an R1 (my 2004 one).

Well i got out just for a road test

I dont remember my 2004 being that arse in the air bars by my ankles

I was a bit wobbly - just not used to the riding position anymore as my FJR is just a tad heavier and more comfortable.

She runs like a new one (remember i took a chance and bought the bike on a private sale without even riding the it) but are they really that fast
The spread of torque is better than i remember and the corniering is on rails, the limiting factor is defo me, boy am i rusty

I had it up in the naughty rpm range a little - for road test purposes only you understand

I just cant find anything at fault other than i need to take some free play out of the throttle cables and learn to ride the bloody thing all over again
