Welcome to the forum Chris, you won’t be disappointed with your choice of the M, mine is bar far the best bike I have ever owned, she always puts a big grin in my face whenever I ride her or indeed see her when I open the garage

Welcome

Stephen

Oh and I second what Polar said, this is by far the best forum ever

Well made the decision after riding a 2018 R1 yesterday and can honestly say it blew me away amazing Bike, unfortunately I have to wait until November for the next application window before I can order my R1M, can’t wait it’s going to be a long 6 or 7 months 😬

Plenty of time for planning mods and getting your venture shield fitting booked in 😋

Haha thank you, venture shield is being put on before pickup as well as a tracker, im not going mad with mods just the standard mods+ slip on Akrapovic, Levers, rear sets, crash protection etc.

One thing that's worrying me is someone who owns one and tracks one on one of the trackday pages said the R1M is sh!t on road, now obviously I haven't tried an M as they are hard to come by let alone test ride, but is it really significantly different on road to the base model, I thought the engine/gearbox fuelling etc was the same just the suspension that's different of which I thought being electronic would make it more compliant on the road, as its main use is going to be road, weekend blasts etc this is as you can understand is concerning and I would appreciate some educated and informed advice/knowledge.

many thanks in advance

Chris

Thank you, hopefully he comes along in a bit

21 grand is a big mistake if its wrong, I understand the R1 in general is stiff and track orientated but the base model was more than acceptable on the road and I loved it I just find it hard to believe (don't want to believe) that the R1M is so much different or bad.

Yep Clarkys right SteveR1 will be along to tell you in his opinion what an amazing bike the M is , like you he had his reservations , he even ordered one changed his mind when it was delivered and then had it in the end , plus he has lots of R riding experiance 👍

Haha I wish !! easy mistake to make, HP4 Carbon not HP4 Race that your thinking of. HP4 carbons were made between 2012-2014

Erm think you have that the wrong way round, HP4 is the easiest bike ive ever ridden. HP4 feels positively dated now compared to the R1. Gen3 S1krr is ok but doesn't excite its just german.
