Newbie - R1M 2015 model

Post by V7sev »

Hi, am new to the forum so wanted to say hello.

I run an R1M, 2015 model on the road and with a few track days every year. Mainly in Europe as they are a little more relaxed and the weather is a bit more predictable.

Bike is amazing. Fast with great suspension. have just done some track days and found moving to suspension setting M1 and added a bit more compression to the front worked a treat. It stopped it from bottoming out the front forks. Rear felt OK on the standard M1 setting but chewed up rear tyres. I used 3 rear tyres in 4 days which gets expensive...

Have changed the front pads to some Brembo's which have improved the feel/ confidence significantly. The braking on track was ok but I did feel the ABS coming into play in some of the harder braking areas ( on track only ). on the road the brakes are absolutely fine.

Managed to get down to high 2:01's at Portimao which is pretty good. I think some tuition is needed to go any faster!

Will post some photos when I get the bike back and have given her a decent clean!

Welcome to the forum mate, I too love my M, though she hasn’t been on track... don’t want to drop her... yeah I know she could be dropped on the road, and yeah tracks are safer... no cars etc...

Anyway she is road only and to me she is a very capable road bike.

I generally use power 1 and suspension A2 or when it’s damp, wet or heavy traffic power 2 and suspension A3... in that mode she can cope with whatever the road or weather throws at us

Looking forward to seeing the pics

Welcome

Stephen

M1 puts the dampers effectively in passive fixed rate mode

Best mode on track in the dry is a1, then adjust if required - i run slightly higher damping on front - the adjustment is reverse of what is intuitive so you reduce the level on screen to increase damping

Welcome to the club. Mine is 2016 r1m.
