For me the main differences i look for to tell between a 4xv and 5jj are the plastic side panels on the tank art twice as big on the 4xv compared to the 5jj , the tail piece and back of the 4xv pillion seat are both flat where as the 5jj they both have a slight point to them and the clocks are subtly different .
Danf1 how do you mean theres less fixings on the 5jj disks ? do you mean the bobbins/floating rivits ?

Rednine wrote: Sat Jun 15, 2019 10:04 am Another welcome from me, a 4XV owner second time around. My daughter never forgave me for selling the first one, it was certainly a sale I still very much regret. Anyway, I picked up a wreck of another one some 3 to 4 years ago which had been ridden 12 months of the year in all weathers. The good news was nothing had been stinted mechanically but physically it was a real heap. However loads of help and advice from the guys on this forum I now have a very respectable BLUE 4XV which I really enjoy. Off to Brands for the BSB tomorrow whatever the weather. :? Enjoy your new purchase, it looks as though you have got a bit of a real steal - long live a drop of alcoholic assistance.
Told the wife I’m selling my 4xv as I’ve not used it in 10 years she said no your f@@@@@g not I love that bike!

Garry... it took some skill to get that sticker on your swing arm looking like it does ..... it’s perfectly level when you pull a wheelie.... that takes skill mate Image

The good news is the older ones are worth more right now. The bad news is it’s blue and they are much slower than the fast red/white ones ask Clarky he’s made the same mistake.😉

No I might have got that wrong is it’s the 5pw they reduced the fixings on (are they called bobbins from disc to rotor they went from 10 to 8).

Only the 4xv discs have 10 rivets. The 5jj and 5 PW have 8.

I remember Yamaha PR claiming loads of upgrades from 4xv to 5jj initially it was 250 I think, but when Some keen eyed Jurno pointed out Yamaha was counting every cosmetic change 2 mirrors, all fairing panels, 4 indicators, 2 heel plates, jompys favourite jet upgrade counted as 4!! I think they toned it down a bit

You may regret that offer Mr Clark  I'm going to stock up with tea bags and biscuits and set up your own little chair in the garage so you don't fall over laughing when you listen to all the glorious noises emitted from various parts of the bike.

I'm starting to build a real list of jobs that need doing which I wont list here I'll start a new thread on the projects page.

Really appreciate the welcome once again, I hope your all a patient bunch my list of questions will be long and potentially spasmodic, the wife wants me to use my time doing stuff to the house and not the bikes.
