New, old 1998 R1 Owner
Hi there,
I've just joined this forum, so I'm new here. But I am the old R1 owner at 61.
I've got a 1998 R1, had it from new. (Had lots of other bikes before, been riding since I was 17).
Painted last year by Dream Machine.
Lots of 'extras' fitted.
I do all the work on it myself, including a complete engine rebuild a few years ago because number 2 cylinder was cracked.
Happy to learn new stuff and to share my 21 years worth of experience with others.
See you around.
Oh yeah, I'm in West Dorset.

Welcome, there's plenty of us here who still have early R1's, or have owned one.
Sorry, but your not that old. I'm 62, and there's quite a few older than me!

Welcome Malc
I’ve had a 99 since 99 ( but not the same one cos it was written off)
Also had a few others, 5VY and a banger and now got an 18 plate M.
They’re all lovely.
Oh and I’m 67

Hi Colin, It's only the Ohlins jacking it up. The length is adjustable. Not too high. Go great. I've just fitted an Ivan's Performance Stage 1 jet kit. And I renewed the needle jets (pain in the arris to do) and it's running sweeeeeet!

Re: New, old 1998 R1 Owner
Welcome to the forum Malc, and what a beautiful R1 you have, love the anniversary colour scheme. Dream machine always do a beautiful job, I’ve had work done by them in the past and could never fault it.
At 21 your bike looks like new, that’s clearly a testament to you.
Human age is but a number and they do say that 60 is the new 40. I know when my Nan and grandad were in their 50’s and 60’s they were old, they had lived through two world wars, that, work and life in general, took its toll on them. Life is different today, I will be old when I can’t ride my R1 or any bike, saying that my grandad was still riding at 82
Welcome and I’m sure your wealth of knowledge I’ll be a great addition to our biking community

Welcome from me too Malc, I have a '99 4XV in blue and I'm older than God. I'm probably not too far away from you, so a meet up at Sammy Millers some time might be an idea.
