Best touring tyres

Post by Chinny »

Peeps need some advice, as some of you are aware me & bubs will be going to the moto gp in Barcelona in June , we will be riding from Calais to Barcelona which is around 822miles each way. So my question is which tyre would you recommend for this journey?

The only touring tyres I've used were the dunlop roadsmart, and the dunlop 207e with roadsmart compound and these both performed well, got no idea how many miles they'd do though you'd have to research that ;)

Know plenty of people who have used these and say they rock. Was tempted myself for along tour of Europe this year but have decided to stick with my power pures.

Did the Haggis run last year.

I had Pilot power (4c8)

Scrapman pilot power II (14B)

Scrapman's Dad Pilot power III (GSXR1000K2)

After 1400 miles of high speed riding, covering all types of roads and surfaces we decided the best tyre was the Pilot II, the III when used in anger moved around way too much and felt like chewing gum, my pilot powers stuck like sh!te to a blanket but were dead after the trip and the scrapman had nearly the same level of grip as me but without the drama of his dads steed and the longevity I could only wank about.

Your choice but this was a real test :!: :!: :!: :!: :!:

Just spent weekend on Pilot Road 3............
Jury still out........hated to begin with but they wore in a bit and I got used to their flex, they do seem to be ok but will take a bit to give 100% confidence - totally different from my usual Pirelli Diablo Corsa

Depends on the roads you're heading down on. If it's twisties then I'd be looking at fast road tyres, if it more swooping A roads or motorways then a more touring based tyre for sure.

If it's a mix I'd stick with fast road tyres but adjust pressures accordingly
