Summer Chain lube

Post by polar » Tue Sep 10, 2019 1:04 pm

Hi all I'm currently using Motul factory line chain lube.

I know chain lube threads can be like oil and tyre threads with everyone arguing but this forum it's different so I decided to ask you guys the question.

The Motul in using is coming to an end, I picked it up from a show years ago. So what summer chain wax are you guys using- especially the track day guys.

I only ever go out when it's dry and warm, I know about the you tube video of the chain lubricant guy. I do think he has a point in the winter but I don't agree with him when all you do is summer riding.

What wax ptfe chain lube are you guys using and what have you found the best?

Thanks guys

I don't like wax lube as it balls up, I did use Muc-Off dry Chain Lube with PTFE for dry riding, but tend to use Muc-Off Extreme on all my bikes now.

You can see where the Muc-Off lube is applied to under ultra violet light.

I use the Dupont stuff in the blue can. It is a dry lube with PTFE and moly, and does a good job, apart from chain noise!

I tried some thick gear oil over the winter, but one ride on damp roads and the chain needed a good clean. The chain was much quieter, which just goes to prove that chain lubes are a compromise.

I've been using XCP on my MT10 and blade winter and summer and am very pleased with it.
Even In winter it lasts way longer than any other chain lube I've tried, and I've tried all the top recommended brands.

The Dupont stuff I use has been discontinued and replaced by chain lube in a yellow can. I understand the new product uses a thicker carrier for the PTFE and moly, and doesn't stay as clean.

It's a very dry lube - the chain is not sticky at all and stays clean. But it will wash off in heavy rain and then the rollers can rust. But I very rarely ride in heavy rain. :)

Works well though - the rear ally sprocket has done over 20,000 miles and looks barely worn.

Ive been on Wurth dry and it took good care of the chain and sprockets on the banger for more than 12,000 miles and 4 years. Only changed it to drop the gearing and because I thought it was time I did!
