Hi All

Post by R1paul »

Hi all, new to this social network stuff thought I better try and get with it :).
I've had bikes pretty much all my life on and off, after passing my bike test I got a GSX 600 and changed that for a VFR 750 FV which was an ex police bike so well looked after. Used that daily for work and pleasure for 3 years , then had 3 years off and decide to treat myself to my all time fav looking bike 1999 R1 4XV red white and black. It's a cracking machine.

Not sure if this is the correct part of the site to ask technical questions if not then sorry  but after a bit of advice, my 4xv speedo occasionally just stops working, if I stop and turn ignition of and then restart it is fine for sometimes the whole trip out. I got a second hand speedo sensor that was supposed to be working fine fitted that and I still have exactly the same problem. Do you think I need to just buy a new sensor or anyone got any ideas if it could be a problem somewhere else, any info would be appreciated . Also if I look at the speedo just as it stops reeding the speed I change down a gear and that brings the speed back up .

Hi Paul, you may well be better posting in the 4XV section of the workshop as more people might read the post there.

If the new (second hand sensor) is doing exactly the same thing as your original then it is unlikely to be that, not seen anything like that before personally.

Check the big white connection block(16 pin) under the left hand(as sat on bike)fairing infill, the deteriorate over time and cause no end of electrical issues ;)
