Hello, 5SL R6 2003 Owner
Hey guys,
Bought myself an R6 back in August, driven it a whopping 0.7 miles since
That's because:
a) I couldn't ride when I bought it
b) I bought it to redesign the front suspension. From forks to a Hossack-derived double wishbone system.
I have been documenting the design and build with lots of words and pictures since I started it in May and the rolling frame is now complete.
Pondering uploading it and starting a build thread and fast forwarding to today so there will be quite a bit to read/see depending on how bothered I am to upload.
I'm also an engineer. Many engineers on the forum?
Thanks,
Aymen

Re: Hello, 5SL R6 2003 Owner
Welcome in Aymen
Now that sounds like an interesting thread for the projects section
theres a couple of engineers / fabricators including Maverick & R1aoc and theres a few people that dabble
here's how to post pic's ( being a brainy git you probably already know )
"get yourself a free photobucket account & follow the idiots guide to posting pics from your pc
posting.php?mode=reply&f=6&t=10659
if you don't want to open a photobucket account then an alternative is go to
http://tinypic.com/
1 - "choose file" and browse to the image you wish to upload from your PC
2 - In the "resize" drop down choose either 15" or 17" screen (15 is enough and fast too)
3 - Press "upload now" where it will ask you to type in a couple of words to confirm you are a human being and not an automated program.
4 - Once done copy the text from the "IMG Code for Forums & Message Boards" field
5 - Then just paste it exactly as is in to your message.
or you can post direct from your not so smart phone using tapawank (tapatalk) it's great for posting pic's & notifications but wank for viewing the forum "

Cheers, I'll get the build thread started in a bit when I can be bothered but not now I've got some Dominos on its way.
There a limit to how long a single post can be? I've got like 15 pages worth documented here so I anticipate splitting it into a few posts

Re: Hello, 5SL R6 2003 Owner
I'm looking forward to trawling through 15 pages of your work to date. Bring it on. I hate the photobucket thing so do pics from mobile via tapas alk which is as easy as posting pics on Facebook. But hard putting mega text together as you can't easily see everything typed in its entirety. So lap top for mega write ups and tapatalk app on mobile or ipad for general use/shorter dialogue. I've written up some stuff at length and when reread on pc I'm aware it hasn't came across as intended purely as the sentence structure was pish. Hard to get point over like that as tough to read? That and I was usually ripped on good weed. Best of luck putting it together. I've always loved alternative front ends. Britten V1000 and various tesis etc. I'll be interested to read the lot. Also how a non rider figures it out as opposed to one that is used to conventional front end braking squat helping/hindering geometry on cornering. The stability on braking I get. I think. Nah now I'm thinking about it... best you explain! Good luck sir.

Lol... and yet another example of why tapatalk app can suck. The predictive text factor and fat finger syndrome can ruin a decent point.

Re: Hello, 5SL R6 2003 Owner
I've started the build thread yesterday, and I used photobucket. Is there any difference in how you guys see the photos if I use photobucket or tapatalk? Also, If I use tapatalk where are the photos saved? do tapatalk have a server or something?Thetony wrote:I hate the photobucket thing so do pics from mobile via tapas alk which is as easy as posting pics on Facebook.
Well I spoke to a few riders and did a lot of reading before I started, and the way I've designed it is to replicate the feeling of forks for the first, say, one third of brake travel, so riders get the typical dive to start with to help gauge their braking, but then will have to learn the new feeling for hard braking at end of travel. That make sense? EDIT: this design was all theoretical... so whether or not it actually functions/feels as designed... only time will tell! Plan to get my mates who have been riding for years to give their input as wellThetony wrote: Also how a non rider figures it out as opposed to one that is used to conventional front end braking squat helping/hindering geometry on cornering. Mentioned this briefly in the build thread, but since a double wishbone suspension is highly configurable it can be designed to imitate pretty much any other system. So using that info I can tailor the bike's dive/anit-dive geometry to achieve what I'm after. There were some graphs and numbers involved but I won't bore you with those

Tapatwat or photo bucket makes no difference to us , not got a clue where tapawank store the pics , same as tiny pics I guess they both have a mahoosive server

Re: Hello, 5SL R6 2003 Owner
Curiouser and curiouser. I'm utterly intrigued. This is what this place needed. No bolt on aesthetic bollocks required... this fucker is gonna figure out that round wheels could be improved if they were oval or something. Keep it coming sir! It'll be oval pistons next... oh wait... they were also a bloody amazing idea too, that needed explored further but never happened. Ayman man, f**k conventional. Thumbs up.
