1999 R1
Hi everybody, I’m new to the forum and have a few questions about my 1999 R1. Everything connected to the exup has been removed prior to me owning the bike , and I mean everything! My question is this, is there a definitive list of settings to get it to run smoothly. Mine has a massive flat spot away from lights etc and seems to be over fuelling massively? Any help appreciated cheers

Re: 1999 R1
Sounds like the previous owner has pissed about with it and not had the fueling set up. Needs to have a fueling run on a dyno and the carbs setup accordingly.
Good luck.

Agree with all above, get it on the DYNO if you are not comfortable adjusting carbs, you might also find that someone has been messing with the jetting, and the setup may be hard to adjust/tune without the DYNO in that case.
I kind of miss working on carbs used to enjoy stripping them down cleaning and refitting....

Re: 1999 R1
The alternative of course is to refit the EXUP and change the carb jetting back to standard. That may not be a cheap option if you have to replace everything, but neither will a dyno tune on a carbed bike.
Probably depends also on what you're planning to do with the bike. You won't get the smooth, bottom end throttle response without the EXUP, but you should get more power.

Re: 1999 R1
Welcome in Eric
As the lads have said you have 2 options
A) Get the bike on a Dyno and set up properly
If your going down this route but the previous owner has removed the Exup valve then i'd be looking at getting aftermarket downpipes and doing it properly , blackwidow i think it was do a set
B) you need to check to see if the Exup is still in place and has been wired open or if the Exup valve has been removed .
Theres usually three main reasons for removing or wiring up the Exup
1) the Exup has seized
2) the servo motor had died
3) the Exup cables have broken
You need to check all three before you make your mind up what to do
If the Exup is seized you can get a decent second hand set of downpipes with an Exup , They're usually on Ebay for up to £150 but i got a really nice set for £60 last year .
The chances are that the servo motor may well have been left in place so that you don't get the servo/Exup error code on the rev counter so you just need to check its working .
If your really lucky it'll just be the cables and you can get replacements cheap enough from Wemoto

Re: 1999 R1
I do agree with Jompy putting the exup back in is probably the best thing and the cheapest route because you may then find the fueling does not need messing with.

Re: 1999 R1
Hi guys thanks for your advice, I’ve spoken to a local Dyno company and he said pretty much the same about going back to Exup, so I’ll be costing that route I think . Once again thanks for your help and advice
