Could have had the bike delivered today but there was a misunderstanding between the current owner, myself and the bike transport people. Should be here on Monday now. Anyway, the paddock stands haven't arrived so there wouldn't be much that I could do at the weekend.
One job I know needs doing is to fit the new chain and sprockets. Should I go down a tooth at the front, or wait until I'm used to the bike first?

Moise, you'll be pleased this is bike related !! I've ordered from America some vortex racing sprockets in blue. Standard is 16/43 on my 2003 5pw. After spending a good hour reading up on it, and what the technical aspect will be, I ordered 15/45. Depending on how soon you're thinking of changing yours, I'll let you know any benefits I find.

The chain is pretty shagged, I could lift it about half a tooth clear of the rear sprocket. The owner had bought new sprockets and chain so it will be one of the first jobs to do.
Blue rear sprocket should look nice. Are Vortex aluminium?

Yeah it's aluminium which isn't as hard wearing as steel but is a fair bit lighter. Reading up on it, should still be good for 10000 miles plus...........

I read somewhere that you shouldn't use top quality chains with aluminium sprockets as then all of the wear occurs at one place on the teeth as the chain doesn't stretch.

i've always stuck to steel sprockets , if i was that concerned about weight saving i'd go on a diet . . . . . . . . infact think i'm going to cut down on crisps & crap i can't fit in my bike jeans at the mo lol
Haha Jompy. Not really bothered about weight myself. Not sure why I put that !! Twas the colour that appealed and then a 45 tooth sprocket. If you don't like the sprocket then I best not mention the gsxr indicator mirrors I put on it last week. Sprayed the lenses with a 'smoke' aerosol too. As you said, each to their own [THUMBS UP SIGN]
