Re: NEWBIE
Welcome in Gavin
Your sausage is looking good
So I take it you've recently passed your test ? Go steady on the R1 as they can be quick to get you in trouble and are a bit large for a first bike at slow speed , I'm sure you'll be fine
Do you have any other experience with bikes like mx ?
Enjoy the R1

Re: NEWBIE
Hi Jompy
Cheers
Yeah just passed my test about 3 weeks ago. been out a few times on it just to get used to it all be it its not the best weather at the moment. I'm aware how lethal these bikes can be so taking it steady for now.
I had a moped in my younger days but when I had passed my car test bikes took a back seat. Looking forward to the better weather
Cheers

Re: NEWBIE
Personally I think it's best to progress in stages to the bigger bikes especially sports bike but then that's not for everyone so how ever you've done it enjoy

Maybe that's my problemtomasbe wrote:Welcome in Frenchy85. It is a massive jump from moped to R1. You should be ok as long as your head is in the right place.

Re: NEWBIE
Hi Gavin, you have got yourself a beautiful looking banger there, I had one of them, what an amazing bike.... and the soundtrack...., like music to my ears....
They are an awesome machine, yet they are a very demanding bike to ride, the throttle takes a lot of getting used to, as it can be very snatchy, but as she is your first bike, well you don’t have any preconceived perceptions....
Best thing for you is time in the saddle, get to know your R1 , her quirks, learn how she talks to you.... through her tyres and chassis...... once mastered.... the bangers are an amazing bike to ride, if you can ride her on wet roads you will have fun come summer.... just don’t forget that you are still learning, the bike will only go as fast as your right hand dictates, just keep control of your right hand for the moment and you will be fine...
Lots of respect for having a banger R1 as your first bike ..... just take it easy and learn.... indeed.... at 58.... and on my 6th R1 ..... I’m still learning
Welcome
Stephen

Re: NEWBIE
I don’t know. People jumping straight on an R1 the minute they pass their test. .
Welcome in Gavin. You’ll be fine if you take your time to get to know her. I couldn’t be arsed to wait either. Picked my banger up and road it home nearly 400 miles on the same day. .
