Afternoon guys,

R6 newbie. Got a PI 600 for some trackdays and maybe abit of racing.

I am one of the many stories ive read about the liner problems so my bike is currently undergoing the bottom end conversion ready for the new season. Managed to get a 10k fz6 engine for £400 so hoping this will solve my problems so will keep everyone posted of the progress.

Daz

Welcome in Daz
Best of luck with sorting the six , they'll be a number of people interested in how you get on , how about starting a thread in the projects section about how you get on ?
How about giving us a bit about yourself and your biking history so we can get to know you :D
A few of the guys do track days and meet up ;)

Hi Dazza and welcome you will find this a great site with really helpful great guys.

I raced a 2004 6 for a couple of years - some time ago now  They are a great bike all the way through the years from the 1st gen to present. I haven't ridden anything newer than a 2004 6 but they are supposed to be brilliant.

You have any pics of yours?

I tried it on mine but didn't like the f**k up it makes of the mudguard so I bought a carbon one with no holes and drilled it to suit.

Cheers guys

Cant wait to get back out on it (providing the conversion works of course!!)

I have given it to a local guy to sort the work as I am the least mechanical ever so would no doubt start it get confused and take it the guy anyway or just not bother with it again.

Re me, I've probably been doing TD's for about 10 years (ish) although only a couple a year. I got a race licence a few year back just coz I fancied a go so I now do a couple of meetings a year. My aim at the time was to not finish last in any race, bring on my riding and maybe have a "race" with a few people towards the back of the grid.

This year, im hoping to do Anglesey in July and September and maybe look at joining Aintree but as you guys already know, its an expensive game so funds will dictate!

Will keep you all posted with the bike and let you know whether its been a success.

Hey guys

Just a quick update on the 5Sl conversion.

Dropped the bike off at Paul Bland Motorsport on Anglesey in the middle of Jan with the promise of it being done and ready by end of Feb so I could think about getting some trackdays booked in & poss the Wirral meet in March. The conversion was "straight forward" as they had owned one before so already had a good idea what was needed to make it work.

Unfortunately this straight forward conversion has taken nearly 3 months and I am still waiting to get the bike back. Previous phone calls have resulted in:
" its had a dry mock up and engine goes together fine so ready to go in the frame and sort bracket

" its had a dry mock up and engine goes together fine so ready to go in the frame and sort bracket so we are nearly there"
"im waiting on a new head gasket to be delivered as they delivered the wrong one"
"haven't done much this week as its been too cold"
"Ive broke my fingers at the track so struggling with the welding & the lad that helps me works nights"

so this is someone who makes a living from bikes & bikers/racers and all I can see is excuses. you see DIY mechanics on facebook doing this successfully and because I am useless with a spanner I thought id give it to a "professional" with his own dyno etc so I could get everything done in one hit. How wrong was I!!!!

So the race/trackday season has started and im still without a bike so the bike will be picked up and I will have to find someone to finish the conversion for me.

Not so good news that, more likely higher priorities I'm sorry to say, have you been and had a look?

I hope it doesn't cost you too many £££££.

So do I Boz. He had quoted me 10 hours as more than adequate to get the job done.

Not been to have a look as I had been promised week after week it was nearly there so just finishing off. I just wished people would be honest and given he does quite abit with the Wirral100 I thought id keep the work local. Ironic thing is that my father & brother both have bikes that they want some work doing so were going to use him. Unfortunately that definitely will not be the case now.
