Hi guys,
Picking up my first R1 in march, absolutely buzzing to get on it. Coming from a 2018 s1000rr road bike. Any other R1 owners around the Bedfordshire area?

Hi mate , enjoy the new bike.

Any particular reason you chose the r1 over the new s1000?

Hi Dan and welcome to the forum. Great bunch on here with all the incarnations of the R1 that span 1998 2020.

Be interested to find out how your new R1 feels coming from the BMW.

Tell us a bit more about yourself your biking history- pictures if possible?

I sold my mint 99 4xv last year and bought the MT10SP. What an amazing bike and that engine is avery special piece of engineering.

Morning chaps
Ok firstly I had a test ride on a 2018 s1000rr a few years ago. It totally blew me away. I placed an order for the new 2020 m sport but as you are all probably aware there was a delay in production. A few months later my dealer called to say their demo bike (m sport) had turned up and was available for viewing. In a nutshell I was totally underwhelmed. Dont get me wrong it's meant to be a vast improvement on the outgoing model but the bodywork looks so plasticky and cheap. It just didnt look special and give me that wow factor and for 20k a bike must have that chemistry when you open that garage door.
The R1 on the other had 😍. Seeing at the nec show sealed the deal for me.
Seems a wise choice as the new model s1000rr has been plagued with issues. Leaking oil cooler pipes, leaking brake calipers, creaking headstock, neutral problems, carbon wheels cracking, stalling on cold start. Cracking of engine casings. And that's just off the top of my head.
I'm sure bmw will iron out the problems going forward but for now the r1 captured my heart and as a first time owner I'm excited to experience everything that comes with it.

Hi jompy
So I'm 37 in march and have been riding since I was 16. I have also been riding on track for about 10 years.
I've had pretty much every bike manufacturer you can think of.
From aprilias, triumph, suzuka,mv agusta's to hondas and ducatis.
I currently have the 2018 s1000rr a 2017 gsxr 1000 (track bike) and a 1998 mk2 aprilia rs 250. I have literally just sold my limited edition mv agusta f3 800 reparto corse.
Have owned 5 R6's over the years which I absolutely loved. Great bikes, but never tried the R1 . I love the styling and looks and that crossplane soundtrack is mesmerising.
Hoping the spring comes sooner rather than later so I can get out and enjoy it.

Welcome Dan, and congratulations on your purchase, and boy you have got a beautiful bike on order.

Like you I fell in love with the R1 at the 2003 NEC show, having been Honda through and through until then. I will never forget the day I picked my new R1 up... and I’ve never looked back

I too have an M, older than yours, she is 4 in April, but I have to say that she is by far the best bike and easiest bike I’ve ever ridden. I don’t ride as often as I used to and this is the first bike I’ve not taken on track but hay... she is such a pleasure to ride

Enjoy the forum

Stephen
