Back in 2000 we were running 180/55s on the early R1s

Welcome to the forum. There are quite a few current and ex 4xv owners here.
LA JIS screwdriver is the best tool to use on the float bowl screws. A #2 Phillips also does the job, plus they have a larger handle.
Did you break the carb body?
