Re: 2009 R1
Welcome in Kyle
It should tell you in forum help & guidelines but be buggered if I've read anything in there other than how to post pic 's & I need to put a bloody short cut to that on me desktop .
Now you've done a newbie poster you might be ok to try again .
Why not post a bit more about your biking history & get some pic's up

Riding experience, well I've been riding bikes since I was a grasshopper and Over the past 10 years or so I have owned every model of R1 ever produced and have toured all over Europe on them, had countless trips to nurburgring and have discovered some of the best roads ever in northern spain. I currently have a 2010 14B in the FIAT Yamaha colours number 114 of 250 officially produced in those colours. I love it more than the wife but not as much as the kids,
I have looked to see how to ad a photo to this message but cant find how, (I'm blatantly a forum virgin)
here you go bud have a gander at this . . . .

Welcome to the forum Kyke. If you have a smart phone or tablet get tapatalk and uploading pics is easy. If not get photobucket and you'll be able to copy the URL code and paste on a thread to upload a pic

Hi and welcome Kyle, Love the Fiat reps. Unfortunately I think the fork leg issue is quite common, so probably not down to being heavy handed...good excuse to bung some Ohlins on there.

Re: 2009 R1
I guess ebay or maybe ask one of the many suspension firms out there. I've got a set of forks, but probably keeping them in case I should ever sell mine and put back to standard.kylezx7r wrote:You have made my day by saying it common pal.petepassion wrote:Hi and welcome Kyle, Love the Fiat reps. I will get some sleep tonight after all. Felt like a right W****R
Where would the best place be to get a fork leg or am I just looking at going to Yam uk
But if you get really stuck, give me a shout and I may let them go just to help out.

Have you seen these?

Not sure if this is the correct side? Should be able to get someone to swap the bottom over.

Maybe give someone like Maxton, FTR, MCT, etc a call, they will know. You could get the forks tweeked at the same time, linear springs and maybe piston kit.kylezx7r wrote:That is the correct side but does the casting part detach from the fork tube. I had a look at mine earlier but couldn't tell if you can actually remove it or not.petepassion wrote:

Re: 2009 R1
Welcome to the forum Kyle, you have by far the best race rep colour scheme, I love the fiat Yamaha's absolutly love them.
You are clearly into your R1's so yiu have found the right forum, we are a friendly bunch with a good sense of humour and peeps are very helpful, as yiu have seen. I'm sorry to hear about your fork, if it's a common fault, though I've never heard of it, I would ask yamaha UK for advice, if it is a common fault, should they replace it........ The worst they can say is bugger off. ... Just a thought and good luck.

Re: 2009 R1
Welcome, that's a great looking bike.
The torque setting for the equivalent bolts on the 4xv is quite low. It seems very easy to break things on the R1 when tightening fasteners!

Re: 2009 R1
It is quite common & I'm sure someone off this forum got it sorted by Yamaha but I can't remember who & how long they'd had the bike .
The early forks the cast bit for the spindle & calipers is bolted on from a hole in the bottom with an alan bolt that can be a bastard to get out , the guy that stripped mine used an air gun , I would have thought the later forks would have been similar

Yeah it does come apart as i did the same with my 4c8 fork which is basically the same fork castings on the big bangerkylezx7r wrote:That is the correct side but does the casting part detach from the fork tube. Not quite sure tbh mate as i gave my forks to Kais suspension in Atherton Manchester as they did some work on them at the same time,im pretty sure they told me they un-screw from the leg,but they r deffo able to b swapped.kylezx7r wrote:Well Damo666 I hope your right pal.mive just bought a fork off the net. The fork leg is damaged but the casting is ok. I'm planning on swapping them over if I can.
Do you know how it comes apart does it screw in?

Re: 2009 R1
Welcome in mate, nice bike that.
The fork legs do split from underneath, its either a star or allen key from memory (which aint that good), If it was me I would send them away and get the forks services and springs which suit your weight, the banger has a strange setup comp on one leg rebound on the other so get a proper job done and feel the difference. Ktech do a good spring and re-valve upgrade, as do FTR etc however they tend use third party parts; Ohlins etc.
Let us know how you get on
