Best say hello

Post by maty j »

Just signed upso saying hello :) My names Matt, I'm from north wales and I ride a 04 r6. I passed my test earlier this year and went out and got the r6 a couple of weeks later. I thought about getting something abit more sensible but that's not really me :D loving the bike so far, not loving the fact that it won't get used much now :( still it'll give me time to make sure it's in top notch and to do a few little mods :)

Welcome to the forum Matt, congratulations on passing your test and getting yourself a beautiful R1  , now you will learn to ride, but take your time and build up your knowledge and skills , the more yiu ride the more yiu learn, and use each tide as a new learning experiance.

For my money, if an R6 is what yiu hankered for having passed your test, then in my view you have made the right decision, if yiu had bought an R1 then I would have thought no.

So welcome, loads of banter on here and some strange sense of humours are displayed, the gits have Nick named me Cilla for some reason known only to our colon, but hay we have a laugh.

I'm not too far from yiu, in cheshire

Cilla :P

That may be so but we've got the best roads up here if you can avoid the sheep :P

Thanks for the warm welcome all :) I'm in Wrexham. Hopefully I'll attend a few rides out next summer if there is any locally :) I'll no doubt be lurking abit and asking stupid questions but we were all noobs at once :D This is my first bike EVER hence why I was a little caustious of jumping on a fast 600 but it'll only go as fast as I flick my wrist so thought I'd give it a try. The sports bikes are what I've always lusted after and i've always had a soft spot for the R6's. I've had fast cars previously and my last one was an evo 9 running around 400hp. I thought I'd made a huge mistake selling that and getting the R but now I've got a few more miles down I'm loving it and the R is the best £3k I've spent! I'm 24 so insurance is abit of a eye waterer but hopefully it'll drop dramaticaly next year.

The bike is pretty standard afaik..... It had a termi carbon can on when i bought it (anyone wanna buy it :D ) but I much prefer the leo vince looks wise. Everyone always comments it's a work of art! Its got braided lines however I don't know if that's standard on the 5sl? I put a new set of tyres on it increasing the front profile to a 70 over the standard 60 and a carbon rear hugger. I plan to keep it stockish but I've already got some short levers on order and feel it could benefit from a damper. I may be wrong here but when the front starts to get up it feels like the bikes trying to shake it's head. Will a dmaper help with this? If so I'll get one added on to my xmas list ;)

I've been busy making sure it's mechanically sound too. Last weekend was plugs which was fun as they aren't in the most accesable location but least they're done and I know how to do them for next time!

Welcome in mate, nice 6 you have there. Driving fast cars and riding fast bikes are totally different. When I was younger I wouldn't think twice about spending ££££s on fast cars thinking I was the dogs bollocks only to find out spending half the amount on a decent bike gave you twice the fun! Enjoy mate and take it easy.

Same. I've blown loads making fast cars faster and thought enoughs enough so that's how I ended up with the R6. I've always wanted a bike so it was natural progression I guess. My evo would use £30 of fuel in about 45 mins when your on it and as much fun as it was it was too much £££. Plus it was my daily so maintenance was mega! The evo felt faster but I think that's only the power delivery from the turbo. You'd get the shunt back in your seat from 3k rpm where as the bike is alot more linear but you can still feel it pulling. I'ts a totally different experiance all together :D

I'll be needing the wellies if I'm going out on the bike any time soon :( weathers gash here so may get it ready for winter :(

Yeah, I'd love to meet up with a few members and have a ride out once the weathers abit better :D

As pete says a litre bike will try & pull yer arms off lol ;).... One step at a time tho - the 6 is a great bike to serve yer 'apprentice ship' on,there's still some dry sunny days to come so might be worth holding out on winter prep ;)
