Re: NEW OWNER
Welcome in Rich
I gotta say I love my 98 but then it's not a standard R1 , the 4xv & 5jj's are great bikes , so then give us all a little bit about your biking history & some picks of your bikes bud , we like to get to know people . Some of the guys are off to cadwell next weekend for a track day , your welcome to pop along , Clarky & I are popping over on the sunday .
There's lots to know & learn about the 4xv & 5jj as they share a lot of parts and stuff is interchangeable .
the sump bolt torque setting is NOT 42nm as stated in the workshop manual & Haynes is more like 15-20nm max . There are also workshop manuals & parts micro fiches to download or view online , have a bloody good look around the 4xv & 5jj sections

Re: NEW OWNER
Welcome to the forum Richard, Jompy does talk some sense occasionally, and he has in his reply to you, but please don't take all his advice, he will have the fairings off ha bike before you can blink, you see he has a slightly different view of the art form of an R1.... He thinks Yamaha got it wrong, so he improved his by removing all of the fairings. Monkey face, as Jompy is known to his friends ,is also reputedly known to have a Yamaha grand panio , well half of one anyway, he removed all the keys to make it sound better
We have a great if not somewhat strange sense of humour on here, the banter is great and the knowledge unbelievable, peeps like to help each other too.
So welcome
Cilla
