Post by bcd92 »

Making a post so I can post in the R1 99 section... pretty stupid feature but hello there!

Bought a 99 R1, got stolen 4 days later and got it recovered Thursday evening which is great news. Went and saw it before the police took it and its got some damages but nothing to crazy. Need to post to ask for some advice :)

Peace,

Ben

Hi Ben, welcome to the forum.
Personally I wouldn't say it was stupid to introduce yourself to a new group, I would call it good manners, but each to their own I guess.
Great news you got your bike back

Its not stupid I guess I never encounted it really amd just wanted to post!

Been riding 4 years. 3 years on big bikes :). Started with a zxr400 for 2 years then moved to a ZX6R for a year. My friend was randomly selling his R1 as he wanted a fireblade and Ive always wanted an R6 but as this R1 was the old shape and was gorgeous I just had to go for it!

When I learn how to post pictures I will put the one I have in here :)

From Northampton and back on the ZX6R until I can get the R1 back up again :)

Welcome in Ben
Glad you did post a hello first

Those 4xv's are a lovely bike , they share a lot of parts with the 5jj like frame, wheels & engines are similar , things that are different are ECU , bodywork i.e. tank , fairing , seat unit & headlight also the radiator & wiring looms are different .
Check the main 20pin white plug on the wiring loom that sits behind the left hand fairing to make sure its in good order & been greased as these can cause problems , the HT leads can break up when old where the plug cap screws on & cause misfire all you need to do is cut 5-10 mm off the end & screw the cap back on , also DON'T tighten the sump bolt up to 42nm its a lot less more like 15-20nm .
get the service manuals and parts micro fiches for both the 4xv & 5jj downloaded , use the online PDF link & down load the parts manuals from there .
http://www.partzilla.com can be helpful for online parts micro fiches for getting part numbers & checking prices in the states you can then enter the partnumber into O.E.M part search on places like http://www.wemoto.com
as for posting pics , get your self a free photobucket account and follow the link to post from your computer viewtopic.php?f=4&t=144
or to post directly from your mobile download the tapawank (tapatalk) app
enjoy :)

Welcome to the forum Ben and thank you for taking the time and the trouble to post a newbie post first   you will clearly become a valued member of this forum as you have followed etiquette to the letter, nice one    and it wasn't a stupid post, far from it.

I'm sirry your first R1 was stolen, glad you have got her back and sorry that the thieving bar stewards have damaged her, I hope you get her fixed easily and have the rest if the summer to enjoy riding her.

The guys on her are the font if all knowledge, they have been there, done that and got the t shirt to boot, they love helping fellow members out so any questions just ask.

As I say, hope you get the lovk and ignition stiff sorted. Good luck

Welcome

Stephen :)

Welcome in mate. Yeah, it's a good forum - I've stuck around for a year now. I really enjoy my 4xv, which I bought as a project to resell, but I still have it a year later.
