First Yamaha! First r1

Post by Rai »

Hello everyone,
My name is Josh 28 years old. I was at Honda Chiswick yesterday looking to PX my honda VFR 800 vtec for a CBR rr 600. I was comfortable on a 600cc having also owning a gsxxr k4 600cc.

Having speaking to the salemans just by chance he showed me a r1 4c8 on a 2009 plate. He had also own the 4c8 before and was telling me how much he loved it. I don't know what come over me but before I knew it I was tested riding this bike and signed over all the paperwork. I actually pick up the keys next Saturday and I'm really excited.

The bike is a 4c8 on a 09 plate with 9k on the clock, full service and box standard. I really want to change the exhaust for sound not performance. I want to feel comfortable and confident before I even consider any performance mods. The saleman was meanting race baffles to install in the standard cans which is a good and cheap option. I look forward to your reviews.

P.s I actually thought I was getting the Big Bang r1 but only having done some research I've got the 4c8 but I'm not fussed just happy to be riding a r1. I would post a pic but don't know how [album]

Hi josh welcome in ,most people who change end cans replace the cat too simple and quite inexpensive mod but will really enhance the sound if not already done ,jompy will explain how to upload a photo ,but easy enough if ur using Tapatalk

Welcome in Josh
Get yourself a free photobucket account & follow the link to the idiots guide to posting pic's from your puter
You can also get Tappawank (tapatalk) it's great for posting pics direct from your smart phone & for notification but wank for browsing the forum lol
From what i have read the 4c8 is more race orientated & better straight out the box , it could do with cans , decat & ecu remap , a cheap way of sorting the can's is to gut them yourself & theres a few write ups on it ;)
The 14b out the box definitely needs a remap & suspention work , theres talk of it being slow to change direction and its a bike you need to learn to ride properly .
Now remember i've never ridden either of the bikes these are just the common views i've picked up on , both are good bikes

ok forget the posting pics bit , it looks like you have that sorted ;)

Oh nice.. See we both got good taste in bikes then. What's year and mileage is yours. Sam I've been skim reading about problems with 2nd gear. Considering I Havnt actually picked up my r1 is there a way to check this and then I'll get Honda on the case

Just a quick question lads.. Is it only the 4c8 slip on exhaust which fit this model or can you fit an older model slip on exhaust to the 4c8

Hi Rai welcome in and nice choice of R1 but then im biased lol,i think Matt on here has a set of race baffled cans that he may consider selling as he will soon be fitting a full system.

Cheers lads.. My main concern now is too sort out the exhaust. Pulling my hair out between getting these A&R race baffles from the U.S. Or get a slip on exhaust. Like I said I'm only after sound not performance.

Next I'll get some xenon fitted to the bike and then last maybe consider a de cat
