Welcome in Tony
Those 4xv's are a lovely bike , they share a lot of parts with the 5jj like frame, wheels & engines are similar , things that are different are ECU , bodywork i.e. tank , fairing , seat unit & headlight also the radiator & wiring looms are different .
Make sure you look in the 4xv & 5jj sections .
Check the main 20pin white plug on the wiring loom that sits behind the left hand fairing to make sure its in good order & been greased as these can cause problems , the HT leads can break up when old where the plug cap screws on & cause misfire all you need to do is cut 5-10 mm off the end & screw the cap back on , also DON'T tighten the sump bolt up to 42nm its a lot less more like 15-20nm .
get the service manuals and parts micro fiches for both the 4xv & 5jj downloaded , use the online PDF link & down load the parts manuals from there .
http://www.partzilla.com can be helpful for online parts micro fiches for getting part numbers & checking prices in the states as theyre prices are cheaper or you could try https://www.fowlersparts.co.uk/browser/ ... bike/yzfr1
and for pic's
get yourself a free photobucket account & follow the idiots guide to posting pics from your pc
posting.php?mode=reply&f=6&t=10659
if you don't want to open a photobucket account then an alternative is go to
http://tinypic.com/

1 - "choose file" and browse to the image you wish to upload from your PC
2 - In the "resize" drop down choose either 15" or 17" screen (15 is enough and fast too)
3 - Press "upload now" where it will ask you to type in a couple of words to confirm you are a human being and not an automated program.
4 - Once done copy the text from the "IMG Code for Forums & Message Boards" field
5 - Then just paste it exactly as is in to your message.

or you can post direct from your not so smart phone using tapawank (tapatalk) it's great for posting pic's & notifications but wank for viewing the forum ;)
enjoy :)

Hi Tony, welcome to the forum
Have you ever tried Buddhism? I'm thinking of giving it a go on Friday.

Hi Tony, welcome to the forum, as the guys said post up some pics of your bike and tell us a bit about your biking history, we are a nosey bunch on here. To post pics see the links below

Taptalk

viewtopic.php?f=4&t=147" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Photo-bucket

viewtopic.php?f=4&t=144" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Any questions just ask, though Jompy aka monkey face, yes he does have a look of his ape like cousins, hence the name, has highlighted the important bits as he does, very helpful chap really, the other guys are also knowledgable, even Petepassion, who is also known as cock, Dave, Steve, George or when he is cross dressing and on his mobility scooter ...Daphne . Re the Buddhist question, we had one come on here a few weeks ago and Pete tried to talk to the guy about the meaning of life, he got so fed up about religion being rammed down his throat that he left, that's the Buddhist not Dave, or was that to do with monkey face applying his newly won powers of a moratorium and banning him, either way a very interesting thread was stopped.

Ok you are probably now thinking what the hell have I joined, don't mind us, the sensible people will be on later . Seriously, this is one hell of a Forum, guys helpful and supportive, if you love track days, PJC is organising one at oulton park next year, PJC is a racer as are a few other guys, and they take time out to coach other less capable riders like me and the majority in here at forum track days ..... That's how people help each other on here.

So join in, give as good as you get and have a laugh

Welcome

Stephen

Hi Sorry for the delay in answering, but a lot going on. Thanks to Jompy loads of useful advise to a R1 virgin. Nice. Brief bike history FZR1000 genesis, FZR1000 exup ,2 YZF 750's, 3 Honda cbx 750's, kwack z650, bandit 600, cbr 600, fazer 600, triumph 900 sprint, and now my R1. I still have the 600 fazer and my latest cbx 750, but the fazer will have to go soon as I don't have enough room in my garage to keep all three. I know you will all be thinking keep the fazer , but Iv'e always had a soft spot for the cbx and this ones red. I will try to upload some photo's but I'm no computer genius so don't hold your breath. Cheers Tony.
