Brought a new 4XV in 1998 and now have another one
Hi , way back in 1998 I brought a brand new 4XV R1 , from memory i believe there was a longer wait for the White/Red version so I went for the Blue instead as it was available within only a few days .
In 2001 i also brought a brand new 5JJ again in Blue but always thought the Red looked nicer and finally found a nice 5JJ a few years later on the used market .
I was sitting outside my local pub a few weeks back and a White/Red 1998 pulled up and after a conversation with the owner it got me lusting after a White one twenty years after my first R1 . My local dealership had just the bike I was looking for and after parting with £500 pound less that i paid for my first new one in 1998 I’m now the owner of my fourth R1 , this one being an R registered 1998 4XV in original White / Red .
I’m impressed with the pearlescent white paint but the red being metallic was a genuine surprise for me when it was in the sun .
Back in the day most owners went for the blue but to my eye it looks rather plain in 2018 whereas the White is just so instantly recognisable as the start of all the subsequent R1 models , a true icon.

Welcome. The white/red looks good as long as you don't mind having the slowest colour.
Any chance of some photos? Click on the Add image button below the box where you write.

I’ve tried to attach an image , I click onto add image , that takes me to my pictures, I click and it loads 100% then it just goes back to an empty reply box . What am i missing? I’m not that good with this internet thing (using an iPad on this forum ?

Take no notice John a lot of the lads on this forum run the slower BLUE 4xv they’re just jealous they all want one but are afraid of the extra speed.
Welcome you’ll find loads of great info to keep the old girl in tip top condition lots of help and plenty of banter.

Re: Brought a new 4XV in 1998 and now have another one
Click “add image to post” below the box you type in.with iPad it takes you to your images don’t forget once you’ve ticked the images you want you must click DONE in top right hand corner of the pictures box before you go back.

I’ve pressed the "done" box when choosing image but still just goes back to empty reply box even after writing a few words before finding image .
What size image should I choose in the choice given on the site ?

Welcome in Supercharged.
The Tapatalk app is another, easy way to get a piccy up. You can edit an existing post of your own and bung one in that way if you can’t be arsed with all this. It’s a rubbish app for finding your way around the forum but OK for pic uploading.
Enjoy the forum and the 4XV mate.

Jompy has a great How To guide for posting photos so hopefully, once he recovers from last night's curry, he'll be along soon to help.
Otherwise as already mentioned download the Tapatalk app to your iPad.

i have a post pics account which is why the pics are bigger , i just upload my pics to my postimage account , click on share , then the direct link button , i then paste the image address to the comments box , i then have to click on the Full Editor & preview button (which i hate i think the full editor should come up automatically like it used to ) i then highlight the pic address as if i'm going to copy it and then click on the image button that you see in full editor mode above the comments box and it puts the [img] [img/] at either end for you .

Welcome mate, I had the faster Blue one but must admit the red and white is pleasing to eye

Re: Brought a new 4XV in 1998 and now have another one
I bought a new blue one in 99 and the same thing happened to me I started to hanker after one so I a year or so ago I bought another, they’re great bikes.
This was my fist one, pics taken sometime in 2000.

Here’s the “new” one.

I’m not jealous of your blue R1 it’s your guru ability to post images up that’s pissing me off ! I’ll get to the bottom of this witchcraft puta thing shortly but even trying to download tapatalk has so far defeated my original R1 owner old git analogue brain .
