For example, if I get a little slide, it’s the bike saying you me “steady on old boy, it’s a tad slippy, back off a bit”

When her rear tyre digs in as you exit the corner she is saying “we can go a bit faster here”

When toy get feedback from the front brake “yes I’m going to stop”

The feedback these bikes give you is amazing, through the bars, pegs, seat of your pants.... they were.. if they could have been... using a saying from my grandad.... vaccinated with a gramophone needle.... they will chat to you all day long if you care to listen to them....

They truly are amazing bikes, and your 4c8 is IMHO the best ever looking R1 period !

Calm down old man! When you get” a little slide” Vicky takes over and shouts steady on granddad. You forget we that haven’t yet progressed beyond the 4c8 don’t have quite the electronic trickery to help us control a little slide.
So ignore pops Pedro ride steady get used to the bike and remember easy on the throttle Out of the bends or the b1tch will get you!
Well Julia... you clearly don’t talk to your 4c8...

Vicky the 5vy, Vicky the 4c8, Vicky the blue 14b, Vicky the white 14b, Vicky the anniversary 14be all had similar levels of feedback that were interpreted as I described above.

Vicky the R1M has a slightly different language, you don’t notice the slide as much rather her correcting your error... but you are aware of it, just not as directly, you do feel her rear tyre bite, you go get the same feeling through the brakes.... so yes the signs are there if you want to interpret them...

Perhaps I’m more in tune with my bikes [emoji4]

On the other hand....

I could just be mad [emoji23].... I could have a blue R1....

..... just a minute [emoji33][emoji4]

The flashed 4c8 is a different animal to the standard one Steve it tends to build power very quickly (much faster than the pc3 setup). My original bike was always quite docile until about 8k but now you have to be more careful with the throttle from 3k. I was only trying to make our newbie aware of the flash, and maybe just winding you up a tad after all Clarky needs a rest!
There you go Julian.... who said you can’t teach an old dog new tricks[emoji1303][emoji4]...me in my simple none mechanical mind, always thought a flash was similar to the custom map on a PCIII, I stand corrected Sir ... and I’m not being sarcastic mate, I really did think they were the same. [emoji4]

Peter I wasn’t suggesting you go out creating slides from the off... you really don’t want to be doing that at all, I was just trying to say, not very effectively, as you get to know your bike, over time, you will pick up what she tells you about what’s going on underneath you, that’s all... my hondas were mute compared to my R1’s, that’s what I like about R1’s. Yes the go fast, very very fast, but only as fast as your right hand dictates, as peeps have said, and perhaps I took for granted, take your time, learn the bike, get to know how she handles and ride in a gear higher than you would do normally, that way the ballistic power won’t bite you in the bum.... I think that’s the advice Julian (DabF1 aka Julia) was saying [emoji1303][emoji4]

Stephen as mentioned a number of times the difference between a flash/remap and a power commander on a fly by wire bike are night and day , with a power commander i don't think you can do a lot more than alter the fueling , with a remap/flash you can adjut the timing , the engine braking and derestrict the gears as with the 4c8 the throttle is restricted to 80% i think it is in the first 3 gears amongst other stuff , on the 14b it gets rid of the snatchy clutch and hunting low down .
There is just so much more scope with a remap/flash and depending on the flash it can turn the 4c8 into a howling Banshee . . . . . . . . as Julian finally found out

As I said Jompy, you learn something new each day. I’ve only ridden bikes with power commanders and custom maps. If I had known what you just said, I would have had 7 wonderful years on the bangers rather than having to slip the clutch at every bloody junction , the PCV did smooth out the throttle somewhat, but it was still snatchy compared to the Ms throttle, and the clutch had to be slipped... it doesn’t on the M... I wish I’d had that on the bangers [emoji20]

Steve before I flashed the b1tch I ran a bazzaz system very similar to a pc3. But the ecu is still locked to 75% throttle below around 8.5k in the lower three gears. Although the bike was better than stock I can honestly say there’s absolutely no comparison With the FTECU flash. It now produces a rush of power from nothing and the only was to describe the throttle control is silky smooth. I’m now careful overtaking cars because it’s very easy to float the front from 5k on. I really don’t recognise it as the same bike.

They’ve not been available that long Steve (Don’t think they were about in 2007 although mike will know) and if it hadn’t been for this place and the chimp constantly going on and on and on and on I wouldn’t have tried it. I still wasn’t really up for it until bowman showed me how easy it was to flash with the kit from mike and said it had transformed his 4c8.

Part of the problem I get when talking about it is most people doo one out the other. I’ve used both so can compare I think in a more realistic way. When I used the Bazzaz the bike was soo much better than standard. However I’m an inquisitive fecker and when I looked in to this flash malarkey it made sense so I went for it and am so pleased I did. Have you had any bikes flashed Steve or has it always been pc3/5?

I would imagine the 5vy was probably a better bike from the crate than a 4c8 as Yamaha were in fairly new territory with the fly by wire throttle and ECU controls on the 4c8.

The 5vy yes was better, did over 65,000 miles on mine in less than three years, the 4c8 was also a beautiful bike, I remember a flat spot... like a milk float could over take you... she accelerated, sort of stopped.. choked... and then... ballistic...

The PCIII with custom map sorted that, and I don’t ever remember her having a snatchy throttle, like the Big Bang engine... she really was a beautiful bike to ride and look at ,

I think... dare I say, as much as I loved my 14b’s and 14be... Yamaha did take a slight step back, but with the 2CR... well it’s my R6 with a litre engine... perfect for me [emoji4][emoji1303]

My 5VY (known as The Magic Carpet) was a fantastic bike for eating up the miles.
Effortless ballistic trans Europe cruising.
I remember sitting somewhere north of 150 on the autobahn for about 20 mins giggling to myself. Don’t half get through the fuel at that speed though.
Old enough to know better.
