Usually all you need to replace are the needle valves and possibly the float bowl O-rings. Most of the stuff in the kit you won't need and are better off not using, like the pilot screws.
Well worth changing the pilot jets to #15 while you have the carbs apart, which is the size used in 5jj carbs.
Make sure the tank is clean, and check the screen on the petcock.

Re: R1 1998 carb kit
Thanks for helping.
Just one other question I have now checked and all kits etc showing #15 and #130 pilot jets but in my manual and on the jets in bike show #17. 5 and #130 which is for 1998-1999 model and the 2000 onwards should be #15.
My bike is 1998 model so now confused.
Have tried quite a few suppliers but seem to get same answer they don't know and it should be #15 for my bike???

Re: R1 1998 carb kit
The US bikes had #15 pilots but the UK spec bikes came with 17.5. I fitted 15's to my bike after someone here recommended them, and was surprised how much better the bike ran in the low-midrange. Definitely worth doing.MotorMouse46 wrote: Fri Jan 24, 2025 3:58 pm Thanks for helping.

It's also worth checking out an Ivan's Jet kit. I have one of those fitted in my R1 along with #15 pilot jets and it runs awesome!!
Ignore the 'off road' statement.

Or you can raise the needles. I found a whole groove was too much, so raised them half a groove with some thin, 3 mm washers.
But the Ivan's kit is the best way to go
