Hi every one I'm new to the Forum but.......... I dont have a Yamaha these days.
I'll explain, I have a close friend who's not too savvy on the net. He has a stunning 1998 R1 in blue, it's virtually as new. He's a very mature owner, he's had the bike from new with only a genuine 6000 dry miles on the clock, Ohlins steering damper and K Tech modified forks. The guy is a top class mechanic having worked on all sorts of bikes and cars such as Porche and Ferrari so you can imagine the care lavished on this bike. As I said the bike is 'as new' but as he doesnt use it he has decided to sell it, but we have no clue as to it's worth. It's a real classic and perhaps a collectors dream.
So if you have any idea of what the value might be please let me know. Regards STEVE...................................

Welcome Steve
Hopefully some of the guy's will be along with some advice but do have a look through the forum as theres a few early R1 sales been mentioned recently , one with very very low miles went for around £4000 i think .
good luck

Re: new to the Forum, but.........
Hi welcome in,think the R1 Jompy mentioned went for £5,100 but i'd say that was more of a collectors bike ie 316 miles on the clock and completely stock even down to the original tyres and numberplate but had been left standing for some time so would need some commissioning, however as your mates bike has a bit more on the clock and has some nice/useful mods i would say its more aimed at a person that would actually use it rather than look at it,all the hype over which to buy (blue or white/red) is personal choice i think but i can hear the collectors shouting RED/WHITE already!! For me i'd say its prob worth around £3,500 maybe a bit more or less, however its not a good time to sell a bike at this time of year, well not unless he wants to send it my way for £2,500

Hi Steve the original R1 is becoming a classic but the values are not that high unless you are lucky enough to find a collector who wants a non standard but sensible updated bike, blue is not the colour of choice so if he doesn't need the money then I suggest he keeps it for now.
I hate to say this but its worth a lot as spares
