Former lurker until I bought one..

Post by Apsaegis »

Hi
New member from Thatcham, Berkshire here.

Just bought a lightly used 04' registered 5PW with only 6.5K miles.
Had a go on it this morning for the first time.. With caution! Old D208's with 07' date codes on them! New ones going on tomorrow.
Whilst out it started running dog rough below 3K. Got it home and thought maybe bad fuel (it's been SORN most of its life) or plugs maybe. Lifted the tank and a few of the spark plug caps/coils were just resting on the plugs - that explains that then! I'll put new plugs in just to be sure.

Been riding for 20+ years with a big gap in the middle when I started doing track days, and ultimately endurance events by No-Limits/Focused etc.

My third R1 - sure is pretty! Married with identical twin girls now so somewhat slower than in my earlier days!

Cheers.
Rob. - apologies I haven't figured out how to post pics on here yet.

Welcome in Rob, you have a beautiful looking R1, that's the model I fell in live with but sadly have never owned or ridden...... She looks really clean.

Keep us posted as to how you get on with her

Cheers.

Presume the caps were never pushed fully home after a plug change at a dealer?
It has many stamps in the service book - seems to have been serviced yearly even though it wasn't bring used.
The same dealer (Pro-Bike Newbury) also fitted the tail tidy. They made a cock-up of that too! Crap wiring with cheap crimps and inline resistors fitted even though it's fitted with the original bulb indicators..
Don't worry - it won't go near any dealer whilst in my ownership :-)
