Re: 'Ello, I'm new round here
So ive just had a good look at it. Hes not budging on a test ride. It looks to be in good nick and its got extras up to the eyeballs. Thing is, its been dropped. The crash bung bracket is sheared off, new bar ends and a little rash on the mirror. Its not got any insurance write offs, he claims 'oh that was done on the door when it came in' which is obviously balls. Thats not a deal breaker, the frame, fork bottoms engine casing etc are fine. So my questions for the all knowing forum are, how much of a wellie do the those brackets take? And any observations?

my thought would be if the 'dealer' (& i'm using the term loosly
) seems somewhat unhelpful/unwilling/full of sh!t now, what happens should you buy it and have issues - f**k em, take your time & find a dealer that can make the whole experience a pleasure
this is what i would do, but.....its your money

It takes nothing to damage a bung, if there are no other marks on the bike I wouldn't just rule it out. If you have pics post em. Look on the swing arm there will be tell tail signs if the rearsets have bust and they do so with ease. 18000 is nought for any R1

Re: 'Ello, I'm new round here
Its not the bung, its the metal bracked that holds the bung to the bike, which is snapped clean off. Its got a rash on the mirror, aftermarket rearsets and r&g bar ends, which is exactly how i tidied up my sv after some cnute opened his car door on me.
The moer i think about it, the more i think shysters, but im very appreciative for the thoughts from you lot.

Mind you, the swing arm and fork bottoms are clean. It all just feels a bit wrong, and this is supposed to be my dream bike so i dont want to buy something im not convinced about.

Re: 'Ello, I'm new round here
Just take your time mate and find one your happy with, I wouldn't believe a dealer who told me the crash Bing bolt bent on the showroom door either. I've bent those before, at 80mph!! Don't think they'd bend a bolt pushing it agains a door frame though, lol. Keep looking

Likely the early design as detail by bubster in the link above... did the dealer still have the part that broke off ? The bracket may look strong.. but its appears its actually made of chesse.. ive heard of the brackets breaking by just being knocked gently by a passing knee
To be fair why the dealer hasn't just removed the bungs ready for sale is a bit lazy.. and is what i would have expected, especially if they was trying to hide something
Scruff on the mirror.. depends on the size of the scruff... a stuff from an off is very different from scraping a wall when parking... again surprised the dealer hasn't replaced the mirrors
Re the test ride... i've never been refused a test ride... and i wouldn't buy a bike without riding it first.. i'd have no issue leaving a returnable deposit.. but i've never been asked
I have been told on a couple of test rides, that if i get pulled.. tell them i on the way to the mot center.. lol
Have you got a link to the bike/dealer ?

Thats it exactly. http://www.motorcyclecentre.com/pages/u ... e68937.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Thats the bike. Not mentioned the total lack of service history ot the power commander. I might go completely the other way and get a low mileage stock bike and brace myself to shell out on extras.

It all sounds a bit sus. I'd look for another bike and definitely never buy anything from that dealer.
I think you're better off buying a standard bike and modding it yourself. My ZZR1200 had been tuned by someone who was supposedly the best in Auckland. The exhaust wasn't designed for the bike and had been poorly bodged to make it fit. I ended up rejetting the carbs myself because it didn't run properly, and replaced the exhaust. So even though I thought I was getting a good deal, it turned out to be more work in the end than starting with a standard bike.

Re: 'Ello, I'm new round here
For what its worth, I think the bike is c£700 over priced anyway. I know some of the extras are expensive new Eg slash cut Yoshi, which weigh a ton BTW about £750, Gilles rearsets £370, lines £50, tail tidy £40 etc etc, but these dont usually add value to a second hand bike.
It cost me a fortune to Mod mine even with 2nd hand bits and I didn't go as far as say Damo or Matt has done on their bikes
EDIT That bike has a great spec so I may be wrong with the valuation, just a shame the dealer aint been a bit more upfront with the service history etc

Re: 'Ello, I'm new round here
Well they did make me a cup of coffee! Wasn't very good though.
I did get the distinct feeling they would have said pretty much anything to flog me a bike, but they weren't going to put themselves out to the extent of letting me get a ride.
Thinking about it, I was only really considering it so much because of the extras, and on mature reflection that doesn't make much sense.
Pjc and all, my thanks for your time and your opinions, I'm very impressed with the forum.

with that many dealers about you can pick & choose , if you don't think the dealers being straight up or you think he could be doing more why spend your hard earned cash with them !Moise wrote:Um, what's been posted in the thread.R1ch wrote:what makes you say that ?Moise wrote: I'd look for another bike and definitely never buy anything from that dealer.
