I did my 1st track day this year on my 2012 R1, once I got my tyre pressures right the bike was confidence inspiring, found the suspension a bit soft under hard braking but then I'm 100kg with my leathers on so will be heavy for the standard springs. I had a RSV Aprilia before so didn't have a problem with the engine braking, fitted a PCV and had it mapped to sort the fuleing and the snatchy throttle

Quick question, i presume that orange light that kept flashing now and then was for traction control??

Not sure traction control will have helped if the front end was pushing.

TC will only help if the rear wheel loses traction and if there is throttle being applied. If i was braking then perhaps ABS could have helped but as i was doing neither no electronic aid could have assisted me in that situation.

Those on-track experiences certainly were a major part in my dissatisfaction with the bike, but what i haven't mentioned is the problems the S1K has had, and they are common amongst other owners.

Problems i've had:
The controls on both clip-ons have failed at different times, very common fault. (Indicator buttons, started button, mainbeam button etc etc)
Fuel cap corrosion.
Defect in the fuel tank.
The quickshifter that comes as standard damages the gearbox, i've also had problems with false neutrals because of it and failed shifts. BMW refused to investigate the problem.

Other owners have complained of the sump corroding within a year of having the bike.
Other general electrical faults.

Yeah that's the TC light coming on indeed, I was playing around with the setting during the track day I tried it on the highest setting (6) to see if the anti-wheelie would stop it lifting the front wheel going over the start/finish straight, but it didn't work that fast.
You wouldn't know the TC was there if it wasn't for the light, you could set it around half way (3) and it would let the back end step out a bit but stop it going too far! Or just turn it off

TC would never have made a difference anyway Pete, the front has tucked at lean .
The hairpin offski looks like you are still steering into the turn instead of holding the line. Could be wrong as still frames are deceiving .
Loved both my 14Bs and love this 4c8 too. Good arguements for both bikes I recon tho I see no need for TC.

I had to sell my 2012 ZX10 recently, I choose the zx10 over the 1000rr, having test ride both bikes I really didn't like how vibey the BMW was, power wise there wasn't any noticeable difference to me.

Done a few trackdays on the the zx10 in fast group, had suspension set-up professionally and loved that bike.

Ended up buying a 2005 R1 (needed funds for wedding) and I can honestly say it's 98% as good as the zx10 for a third of the price.

Get a 5VY and save ££££££'s and go enjoy your left over cash on as many trackdays as you want

I also noticed your yokes had been dropped on the BMW, this will account for some if your handling issues I'd imagine !

Bike was stock in the photos, in the video the bike had money spent on it, wheels, tyres and suspension setup. You are not the first person to comment on the front end geometry. I have changed it again since then and the yokes have been raised again +1 ring beyond the stock height.

I was at a Yamaha dealer today and got talking to one of the sales guys, i told him i was after an R1 but in 2014 colours, I noticed he had a Blue and Grey one in stock and that it was colour i originally wanted, after another few mins of chatting he makes a call to Yamaha and tells me he'll knock £500 off the price to which i replay with "OK then"

It looks like this is mine now

Very nice m8, I like that colour as well. Hope he chucked some pipes in as well and a seat pod, tail tidy etc

heh, no i didn't want to pull his pants down. they are already doing me a favour by keeping the bike till March so it can get a 14 plate on it.

Your gonna enjoy that mate, nice one.
Had, blinged and busted two of them already.
Play nice with it to start with, usually takes a wee bit of rider adjustment to get in tune with it.

Yes, November they got Yam dealership status which is good news. i've done business with Saltire in the past and they are good guys.
