Your 5vy is looking mint John, as peeps say the lava red is a top colour scheme. My 04 model did have the gun metal dark grey /blackish belly pans and they did look smart.

It your meat and two veg are getting in the way if the tank, you are sitting too close, get some stomp grip and hold on with your knees not your arms, that could also be giving you wrist ache. You should be able to get your fist between your bits and the tank. Also are your leavers in the right place, your lower arm, wrist and fingers should be in a straight line with your fingers resting on the leavers, if you are having to twist your wrists up then they are too high and vice versa too low, it's a simple adjustment to make but it makes one hell of a difference.

Finally I got over 65k out of my 5vy in less than 3years, it never let me down, it was an awesome bike on road and track, commuting and going to the twisties, you will love it.....
Enjoy your new toy :P

Cheers Steve, was going to make to adjustments yesterday but decided sitting down and watching sh!t films was a priority  in all honesty there's little adjustment to be made, the guy I bought it off must have has the same gangly arms and legs as me as the gear change is spot on too. Will see about getting some stomp grips.

I have to admit the bike turns in very slow in comparison to the street so my confidence in the corners is a bit lacking at the moment - especially in this drizzly, greasy weather. It's got Dunlop Qualifiers on which I'm unfamiliar with (always been a Michelin/Metzeler man) - how do they rate in the wet? I think I read something about an alternate profile improving the turn in speed also, is this correct?

The r 1 can be a bit like turning a supertanker but you do get used to it, counter steering is a real benefit. Like you I never got on with dunflops but I love the Michelin's, I have recently fitted power cups to my r1 and it has a v shales tyre profile, that does speed up the steering. A lot of the guys on here rate the Michelin's, I know pods using power threes and he rated them wet or dry

A pic of my old 5vy... She was a beautiful bike

Lovely looking, much nicer with the darker lower sections and lack of Raiden lightning bolts on the tail. Definitely the way I'm gonna go with it. Got a big ride out sorted for Saturday as the forecast is hot hot hot, going around Surrey hills/Rikers Café if anyone's about? You'll have to bear with my slower pace though as I doubt I'm gonna get all Rossi on this b1tch overnight!
