Another R1 in the house :)

Hi folks,

Just joined so following the etiquette of posting in the newbies section and saying hi!

My ride is an R1 2008 (4C8) which I'm in the final stages of repairing after a recent collision with a car when I decided I wasn't fast enough :naughty:

I've done the following to it;

-Decat (gutted and re-welded)
-Toce end cans
-Adjusted the gearing to -1/+2

And now am very happy with it. As a stocker, it was a bit pants for around town so the gearing sorted that out. Use it daily for commuting, weekend warrior ride outs & done a bit of touring around UK on it and will do more in future.

Cheers.

Cheers,

Car got off worse I think! Ended up being a write off unfortunately but I've spoken to the driver - he's happy I'm OK and is very happy with the settlement so all good.

Welcome to the forum Phil, nice opening post and pics too..... We could not ask for more

Glad you were ok after the off, , them pics you posted, have you borrowed monkey faces bike, as without its fairings your bike is a dead ringer for his

You have made a good job of the raptors and I'm loving those cans, you are going to have to post a vid so we can hear what they are like.

Anyway welcome to the mad house , no is not the gender confused member, even though they do call me Cilla ... Well that was colons fault, despite his name he ain't an @rse I just replaced the I by an O in Colin by mistake, I'm always getting my I's and O's mixed up  anyway the got nicknamed me Cilla for a laugh and sadly it's stuck.

Mr Passion who I'm hoping CADMonkey was on about should be along later , well either he will it George or Dave, Cock or Daphne

Anyway welcome to the mad house

Cilla.....

Oh and our primate ...... This is a pic of him before he started cross dressing

Hi, welcome.
Love the cans, although they do seem to divide opinion.
I don't believe I'm the gender confused member although maybe you should ask Daphne for a better insight...I dunno, haven't a clue what goes on, I know as far as Dave is concerned it's a mans mans world... in the words of the good Mr Brown...and he should know.

Best not to try and sell kitchens or 'limited edition  ' R1's until after the probation period.
Enjoy the forum, just keep an eye out for the odd weirdo...yeah, there's a few around these parts.

Here's a video as requested; (no baffles, obviously!).

It's nuts. Probably never get on a track with it though.

Hi Chief

I love the Toce pipes as well. Welcome to the forum and glad to see the bikes back together. Be safe tomorrow

So didnt quite get it who's fault was the crash and what happened, looks like that could have ended a lot worse.

We have a crash test dummies section if you fancy a write up

:shifty: :shifty: I have two entries in there

Definitely my fault. But I prefer it that way because it means my risk assessment at least is good lol.

Took corner too quick ended up head on almost with a car and cleared deadmans ditch near Dunmow, essex and broke my left foot in the process. That was the 16th May.

Will do a write up about it sometime next week, got loads of cool photos :)

Jompy the weather monkey    , to be fair you ain't wrong mate.

Phil, we all make mistakes, hell the person who says they have never made a mistake haven't done anything, the important thing is that we learn from them... So what have you learnt ? Oh and when you are as old as PJC and me it takes a lot longer fir yiur body to heal ......

I learned how bloody quick I was before I tried to be quicker lol.

Most important thing is that there is a thin line between fast and safe, and stupid. I was practicing my body positions that day and the increased speed on the corners meant if you find anything in the corner you need to adjust your line for, your speed won't allow you to.

In my case, I set myself up for a 60° sweeping bend which then turned into an 80° monster half way through. At that point there was nothing I could do and I remember pushing the hell out of my bars trying to tighten up but it just wasnwasn't happening so I decided to make a last minute adjustment and try to avoid the car to his left, rather than go through the screen.

I think I made the right choice.

Now I am satisfied with the speed I ride at and have found my limit.

I was leading a group of 15 riders at the time which although a bit of hurt ego, was great because they sorted me out good and proper.

Hasn't out me off or made me scared in the slightest. I know what I did wrong and I won't be making the same mistake again.

Broken bones recalcified in 3 weeks and xray showed it to heal up real nice. Still slightly sore from soft tissue damage and general bruising but another 2-3 weeks and I'll be back to playing squash 3 times a week :)

Ouch, that could have ended much worse. I did something similar last year but somehow stayed on. If you can't see through a corner and go in fast, you will run out of luck eventually.
