Hi Chaps,
Just got my first R1, after lots of time on Dukes, Trumpets etc.
It's fantastic, really enjoying it and I hope to meet some of you on rides out.
I have a starting problem, which I'll post in the 4XV section.
Appreciate if you can help,
Cheers.

Welcome in Al
Those 4xv's are a lovely bike , they share a lot of parts with the 5jj like frame, wheels & engines are similar , things that are different are ECU , bodywork i.e. tank , fairing , seat unit & headlight also the radiator & wiring looms are different .
Check the main 20pin white plug on the wiring loom that sits behind the left hand fairing to make sure its in good order & been greased as these can cause problems , the HT leads can break up when old where the plug cap screws on & cause misfire all you need to do is cut 5-10 mm off the end & screw the cap back on , also DON'T tighten the sump bolt up to 42nm its a lot less more like 15-20nm .
get the service manuals and parts micro fiches for both the 4xv & 5jj downloaded , use the online PDF link & down load the parts manuals from there .
http://www.partzilla.com can be helpful for online parts micro fiches for getting part numbers & checking prices in the states you can then enter the partnumber into O.E.M part search on places like
http://www.wemoto.com
enjoy

Thanks chaps for a great welcome!
It feels smooth, nimble and fast compared to the dukes! It's been a while since I had an inline four, also one with lovely carbs too!
I've checked the large 20 pin connector, a couple of pins were a little green. Cleaning them up unfortunately didn't solve it. I'll try some more of your tips
Cheers, Alan.

Welcome in Alan - as said get some pics up pal & good luck with the starter button issue (in the good old days you'd have given it a squirt of wd40

)

Hi Chaps,
Such a great welcome, I think I'll stick around here for a while.
Well had a lovely ride today after sorting the starting issue. It was either the large 20 pin connector under the left facia panel, or one of the terminals on the stater relay. I clean both and it's starting great now!
Just need to get the thing on track now, really need to open it up properly.
Such a beautiful bike, you chaps are very lucky.
Cheers, Alan.
