Hey guys, names Alex. I'm from Kent. Picked up a 5jj last Saturday which I love. New pads all around, new clutch and some dash bulbs are a few small jobs I've done on her. :)

Had a bike back at 16/17 then kinda got into cars, couple of years back started doing some enduros then some byways and green laning. Done my bike test last year and got an xj6, now onto the R.

Yeah, I was thinking that too. There were 2 paint schemes for the 4xv and yours looks like a 1999.

Most noticable differences are - pointier tail/nose & where tank meets seat ;)

Ah yes, fully aware of the light front end... Could do with a steering dampner I know that much, she does get a wobble on!

Thanks for the welcomes though :)

Back home now ;)
Those 5jj's are a lovely bike , they share a lot of parts with the 4xv like frame, wheels & engines are similar , things that are different are ECU , bodywork i.e. tank , fairing , seat unit & headlight also the radiator & wiring looms are different .
Make sure you look in the 4xv & 5jj sections .
Check the main 20pin white plug on the wiring loom that sits behind the left hand fairing to make sure its in good order & been greased as these can cause problems , the HT leads can break up when old where the plug cap screws on & cause misfire all you need to do is cut 5-10 mm off the end & screw the cap back on , also DON'T tighten the sump bolt up to 42nm its a lot less more like 15-20nm .
get the service manuals and parts micro fiches for both the 4xv & 5jj downloaded , use the online PDF link & down load the parts manuals from there .
http://www.partzilla.com can be helpful for online parts micro fiches for getting part numbers & checking prices in the states as theyre prices are cheaper or you could try https://www.fowlersparts.co.uk/browser/ ... bike/yzfr1
enjoy :)
