Hello, New, 5PW and Help!

Hello All!
Firstly, mods if this post isn't allowed please feel free to delete this topic.
I have a Yamaha R1 5PW engine that I am putting into my Singer Chamois (aka Hillman Imp). I need a bit of help identifying what is required for me to get the engine running on the standard ECU.
If someone has altered their bike for track use where all safety and unnecessary wiring has been removed that would be very helpful information!
I will get some pictures up shortly!
Thanks in advance.
Neil

Welcome in Neil
Seeing as I'm next to useless with that kind of stuff I'm afraid you'll have to wait for one of the mildly cleaver people to answer that one

Hi Neil,
Welcome in, as for the loom , you will need the injector sub loom the headlight wiring loom, clocks and ecu, the headlight loom and clocks are rare and expensive , try searching ebay worldwide under RN09 as that is also a code for the 5pw.

Hi Neil, welcome to the forum and like Jompy I'm useless, but as he says the guys on here are very knowledgeable and helpful. Please post up some pics, we love pics on here and yiur hilman imp is going to be part Yamaha so it is kind of related .
Good luck with the conversion and get some good tyres on the front wheels, them old cross plus were renound for the car not steering on slippery roads ..... Come to a corner, turn the steering wheel and the car would continue in a straight line..... Yes I'm old enough to remember that
Anyway welcome
Stephen

Hello Mark,
I believe I have every except the headlight sub loom? Please could you confirm this?
Injector sub loom is still attached to the throttle bodies.
Headlight sub loom, I don't think so.
Clocks, yes but not original to the donor bike I believe. I'm not sure this makes a difference?
ECU, yep.

Stephen, Haha I'm putting the battery and radiator in the front to help with this!

Plus adding some good rubber...
As for my project, here she is:
Once everything is working NA I will look into adding this.... Haha.. One day.

You might want some aero on the front to stop it lifting at speed. My brother in law had a tuned Singer version (Chamois?), and had almost no steering one day on the motorway when he had it flat out. He still looked very pale when he arrived at our place!

Looks like you have most of what you need there, the clock loom is also the headlight loom

, are you going to use the bike ignition switch and starter motor ? if so you will need the switch gear
I do have some bits kicking about as i have changed a lot on my bike :

Haha yeah I can imagine! I’m hoping to make it look like this… No idea if it will have any effect but we will find out in time I guess!

Your bike looks ace!
As for wiring, well I was going to just integrate the wiring into the switches and starter relay already on the car for now. I just need to find out what pins to bridge and what resistors to shove where to make it think it’s got all the safety circuits etc…
I found this a while ago:
http://www.koracing.co.uk/R1/5PW%20Yama ... Wiring.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
But I can’t remember where I got stuck. I will have another play and see what happens. I believe it was a wiring colour issue and a difference between the 2002 and 2003 bikes? I’ll keep you updated.
I know that I don’t have an EXUP servo so I need to find a fix for that or am I going to need to buy one and just not physically connect it to anything?
Once all the wiring is sorted I will make a whole new loom to make it all tidy and nice.
You are correct, 1968. Just to make you feel old, she is twice my age!

Yep 2002/ 2003 clock looms are different , the 2003 has hazards and lights perm on but main main issue for you would be that the clock looms are different and are not (easily) interchangeable , 2002 stuff loom ends in 00, 2003 loom ends in 01, the connectors are different.
i do have 2002 switch gear , a cut up loom and i might have an ignition if you want to use that to help sort what goes where etc ( you can send it back when your done

)
Thanks for the comments on the bike ( Triggers broom)
if you get stuck pm me your number, im no expert (far from it

) but i have done a bit on the wiring on mine and i might be able to help

Ahh, this is the label on the main engine harness:
Or am I looking at the wrong bit?
Did the clock loom have different connectors between the model years? My clocks sub loom connects up to the main harness ok so does that mean I have the correct sub loom? There doesn't seem to be any labels on this one.
Thanks for all the help so far Mark its really appreciated and I hope we will get it running soon!
Neil
