Thought it would be polite to say 'Hi' :D

Lifelong Yamaha fan.....with a couple of Bimota's thrown in which proved 'interesting' to say the least

Current bike is an R7 which I've had for 13 years and will never sell. Just sold my Honda SP1 & Bimota SB8R to make way for an R1M which I'll be collecting from Northampton Yamaha next March so have joined up to learn a bit more about these bikes.

Last R1 (15 years ago) was a Marlboro painted 1999 model which the salesman assured me were ultra rare......my first ride out I think I saw more R1 race replicas than standard ones!!

Couple of pics:

Looking forward to getting involved.

Cheers

Hi Glen, welcome to the forum and cracking first post supported by a truly classic bike, your R7 is a beauty and I can understand why you would never sell her.

Congratulations on your allocation of an R1M quite a few of us on here applied last year but were unlucky, but we have all been lucky this year :D so like you we can't wait until March. Did you go down to the NEC as Yamaha had an M on their stand that you could get up close and personal with and sit on. Must admit for me it has given me some food for thought, I'm not too keen on the swing arm nor the wires coming out of the forks at the yolk but hay the rest of the bike looks stunning. As I say, I'm still mulling things over the photos I took are on the following topic if they are of any interest

viewtopic.php?f=6&t=11786" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I'm not posting the pictures separately as monkey face aka Jompy will shout at me for trying to get my post count up

This is a great forum, members are great and very knowledgable and we have quite a few peeps who already have the M or the standard R1 so they are the first post of call for questions on this new machine.

Anyway, enjoy the forum, join in with the banter and have a good laugh

Welcome

Stephen :D

Thanks all for the welcomes 8-)

In response to Steve's post, I did manage to make it to the NEC on the first Sunday and had a good half an hour looking around the M and sitting on it whilst the missus was snapping away!

Agree, you'll need to be careful with the swingarm as it will easily get marked.....same thing started to happen on the R7 when I was wearing my Supertech R's, but luckily noticed it before any lasting damage was done. Switched to SMX Plus's after that and problem solved.

I believe last year's M allocation was a bit of a clusterfuck from talking with a contact in a Yam dealer......he had 5 reservations and 1 bike so he contacted YUK asking should he give it to the first person to register and they responded he could pick whoever he wanted  So of the 5 orders, only 1 customer had actually visited his showroom hence he gave the bike to them. I suppose at least he knew the customer and that he was genuine purchaser not looking to sell it on for a profit. Funny story was that when the bike came back in for its 1st service, the customer was telling tales of knee down wild moments, and when they plugged the bike in it showed a maximum lean angle of 16 degrees :D :D .....no doubt when it was on its side stand :D

Anyway, I figured it was time for a new bike, since the last brand new machine I bought was an R6 from Carnells Milton Keynes (my old employers) back in 1998 :o

And to finish off with......this is the result of low-siding a Bimota SB6 on a sunny Sunday morning :naughty: I'd never treat a Yamaha like this.......

Hmmm.......not sure 'love' is the right word for Bimota's :?

Here's the SB8R looking lovely.......

And here it is in its natural habitat.....in the back of a dustcart after the throttle cable snapped   Reliability is absolutely dreadful but apparently that is all part of the 'character'. Never again........ :hand:

Your best bet is to join the http://www.bimotaforum.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and post in the 'spare parts wanted' section. Somebody will have the parts you're looking for. My mate also had an SB6 and smashed that up as well, so he had a new set made in carbon by a UK company (can't remember the name), but in several sections which was much better than the one piece bodywork in fibreglass.
