Now then,

I've just been to pick up my Christmas present from the missus, my mate's 2002 R1.

I've stepped up from my first bike, a Suzuki SV650, so it's quite a jump!

It is in near pristine nick, so I intend to keep it that way, and will be asking a lot of questions.

I look forward to speaking again soon.

The Head.

Welcome in mate. That's a very big jump. I went from a SV650 to a GSXR 600 and that was a big jump!

Especially for such a little bloke Colin

Welcome to the forum Paul , as Colin says, it is a big jump but hay, take it easy, be gentle on the throttle and respect the bike and you will be fine. We all went from a lesser bike to an R1 at some stage during our riding career and we all took time to get to know the bike, learn to ride it and fall in love with it. R1's are an awsome machine, yes they can have you off in a jiffy and you can't ride it with the throttle pinned everywhere, but they can be fun to ride, you will find you are not up and down the box as often to get the bike going, you can keep her in second and use her as a twist and go if you wish, they are great for road riding, twisties, commuting, long distance mile munching and of course track days

So welcome to the forum, post up some pics of your R1, we love pics on here, the links below should help

Any questions, just ask, join in with the banter and have a laugh

Welcome

Stephen

Hi Head. Welcome to the forum. That engine's gonna feel like an animal for a while  Enjoy.
You'll also notice the far superior build quality. Nice bikes.

Welcome in Paul
Boy are you going to be grinning from ear to ear for the next few years !
Yes the R1's can be ballistic but they can also be smooth & easy to ride depending on how you ride !
Which model do you have ? A late registered carb'd 5jj or on of the 5pw's first of the injection R1's ?

Just the keys, Steve. I'll make room in the garage for the bike!
