Hi All
Just joined today so Hello to everyone
I have just purchased a damaged 2002 5PW Yam R1 and I am in the process of putting it back to standard with a few tasteful mods
The bike was bought damaged with just cosmetic damage ie Fairings etc etc - The previous owner had started to street fighter it & then gave up for different reasons so in steps with me with an offer & hey presto I now own it
Ive currently bought second hand upper side fairings & a nose cowl along with a new headlight to put back to std - Upon doing out a list of parts i require I have noticed the top yoke isnt standard - Its actually a custom Lucas top yoke which had riser bolt holes in it - This wouldnt of been a prioblem only to find the original clip on's arent bolted to the yoke via the 1 off securing alan key bolt, they are just clamnped at the side which i think is very dangerous giving if i had to brake hard or accelerate extremely fast which is going to happen these clip on bars could move forward or backwards on the fork legs
I cant find a standard top yoke anywhere to put back on & I have found on EBAY a standard top yoke of a 01 5JJ model so my queston is:
Would a standard top yoke off a 2001 R1 5JJ model fit on to my 5PW R1 & how much of a difference would it make to the angle of the fork legs as they look slightly different in the fork hole positioning ?

Street fightering an R1 is Sacrilege (Sorry Jompy)
Your clip ons wont move even with the lightest of nips mate, every track bike ive ever had are only ever nipped up on the clip on and i never have them bolted to the yoke. Just make sure you have a good nip on to the fork tube. I would definatly keep the yoke and clip on set up you currenly have.
I currently race a 14b R1 and my clip ons are only just nipped up lightly onto the fork tube. I assure you they wont move as long as you have a good nip on them
Put it to the test, nip them up tight and try to move them, put a bar on it see if you can move it, (Within reason ofcourse dont bend them) i bet you a tenner you cant get it to turn on the fork tube, I'll send you my paypal address once youve done it

Welcome to the forum Glenn, and good on you for returning a butchered R1 back to standard, we do have our own resident butcher in here, aka Jompy, so I would bet he would be able to give you some advice.
Any chance of posting some pics, you could start a project thread, we love them, showing how you have brought half an R1 back to life, the "half one" is what we all call jompys butchered bike .
Anyway welcome to the firum and good luck with your quest
Stephen

As long as you use matching upper and lower yolks you will be fine
The older yokes may make it a tad bit more unstable, but I very much doubt you would notice
Aren't clip ins always nipped round the fork tubes?
Let me see if I can find a pic of my 5pw
