Hello from Lincolnshire
Hello all,
I've been into bikes all my life starting off ayt age 9 with trials on a ty80. I didn't pass my road license until 23 with a ZX6R as first road bike, then a new GSXR750 in 04. The worst decision I ever made was selling that bike (house/kids, you know the story), so bike less for a year or two then I got a bargain in the form of a RSV Mille R.
I have been hankering after an original R1 4XV for several years, always watching them becoming more expensive, especially when MCN do a full page spread on them. So funds allowed and last month i purchased the R1 1998 in red and white. Best decision I ever made, very happy with purchase and view it as an investment that I can enjoy.
A few things to tidy up on it to put it back to original condition, the wheels are white so those to return to black, the rear fairing has a Yamaha graphic in the wrong place and the foot peg hangers have been polished. The clutch cover needs replacing due to damage from the bike falling over at some point but other than that its in great condition.
Happy safe riding to all.
John

Re: Hello from Lincolnshire
Welcome in John
You won't go far wrong with a 4xv
heres a few tips about the 4xv & 5jj also how to post pic's !
"Those 4xv's are a lovely bike , they share a lot of parts with the 5jj like frame, wheels & engines are similar , things that are different are ECU , bodywork i.e. tank , fairing , seat unit & headlight also the radiator & wiring looms are different .
Make sure you look in the 4xv & 5jj sections .
Check the main 20pin white plug on the wiring loom that sits behind the left hand fairing to make sure its in good order & been greased as these can cause problems , the HT leads can break up when old where the plug cap screws on & cause misfire all you need to do is cut 5-10 mm off the end & screw the cap back on , also DON'T tighten the sump bolt up to 42nm its a lot less more like 15-20nm .
get the service manuals and parts micro fiches for both the 4xv & 5jj downloaded , use the online PDF link & down load the parts manuals from there .
http://www.partzilla.com can be helpful for online parts micro fiches for getting part numbers & checking prices in the states as theyre prices are cheaper or you could try https://www.fowlersparts.co.uk/browser/ ... bike/yzfr1
enjoy
"
"get yourself a free photobucket account & follow the idiots guide to posting pics from your pc
posting.php?mode=reply&f=6&t=10659
if you don't want to open a photobucket account then an alternative is go to
http://tinypic.com/
1 - "choose file" and browse to the image you wish to upload from your PC
2 - In the "resize" drop down choose either 15" or 17" screen (15 is enough and fast too)
3 - Press "upload now" where it will ask you to type in a couple of words to confirm you are a human being and not an automated program.
4 - Once done copy the text from the "IMG Code for Forums & Message Boards" field
5 - Then just paste it exactly as is in to your message.
or you can post direct from your not so smart phone using tapawank (tapatalk) it's great for posting pic's & notifications but wank for viewing the forum

That seems to have worked, I was polishing the bikes up between watching the BSB.
What date is the Cadwell track day, I'm only down the road from it

Re: Hello from Lincolnshire
Thanks Jompy and for all the good gen too.
The FZR is an E plate Genesis, my dad's had it from new and now I'm the carer as my mum went mental with him for buying another bike, and I quote "you can only ride one at a time"
Correct mother but you can also look at more than one at once!

Thanks Stephen, looks like you got a bit of sun in between the downpours. Hoping to get to a few meets this year, but work and kid normally get in the way.

Re: Hello from Lincolnshire
Welcome in mate, I used tae own a FZR in them exact colours, lovely 4XV and the right choice as an investment, the red an whites are goin up in value nicely.

Thanks Donny,
Just to think only 10 years between the fzr and the R1 and yet the difference, I feel, is massive compared to the 98 R1 and newer machinery.
