Hi All,

Thought I would stop by, this seems like the place for the greatest machines on earth. Here's mine at the minute fair bit left to do lots of hours invested so far.

Thanks for the welcome chaps :)

I've owned this R1 for about 5 months now and decided last month I was going to strip her and build it up to suit me, but yes indeed it's 5JJ with a little twist. I've owned in the past...

rs125
sach xtc
vfr400
cbr400
zxr400
cb500 x2
gs500
Yamaha R6
bandit 600
bandit 1200
cb750
xv1000
vtr1000
couple of R1's both 5jj
zx10

I've probably missed a couple but that's a start and after riding the odd blade or rsv and even the zx10 I've always come back to this exact model of r1. The sharpness of the steering, aggressive power delivery and that its a true pure mechanical sportsbike from a now passed era does it for me. It's taken a little over a decades worth of riding and covering around 120,000 miles to find what I like best :D

Yeah the early R1's are great , out of the 4xv & 5jj the 5jj power delivery I find better for the road with the extra mid-range & the 4xv is an animal as it hits 8-9000 rpm

They really are a hoot  my only criticism if I could be so bold is the Exup mechanism corroding. The difference it makes when removed or set in one position is interesting, personally I like the nuts jump of power at 3 odd k without it but it easily catches people out.

yeah i have a corroded exup pully on a set of my pipes
i love the smooth seemless power delivery until you hit that spot around 9000rpm when it goes mental !
i also like the fact that the bikes reasonably quiet below 3500rpm which helps on early mornings & late at night .
I've had my 4xv 6 years now & it still makes me grin from ear to ear , i love it

You post em and we will comment on them.... Now what does that remind me of....

Oh that's it, one of jompys old jobs, when he played Mr Shifter in the PG Tips advert.... "Dad, do you know the panino is on my foot" "you hum it son and I'll play it" it was one of monkey faces best bits of TV, until he stared in planet of the apes, here is a not so happy Jompy

Ahh Mooonkey! Monkey and Vegas are a great pair. Should be some more pics in the next few days and an evaluation of a new radiator, It was advertised that it was made in the Netherlands...shouldn't have been too surprised to find out it is infact made in China but we'll see.
