Hi All,
Just rode my new toy home from Chelmsford She's a 1999 Blue and White R1. 28k and In lovely condition, but I bought her for the track tbh.
Now I may be expecting to much as I also have a 2014 BMW S1000R Naked with all the bells and whistles. But there is definitely something wrong with the front brake on the R1, it is totally useless! To the point of being seriously dangerous.
Is there a common problem here with older bikes? Just wondered if there was before I start stripping it all down. I'm thinking new master cylinder from a later gen machine as well as new pads/discs. Any info on this would be appreciated

Check the callipers - they may need to be serviced. Decent pads and braided hoses also help.

Welcome in Robert
R1 brakes are renowned for being good the only down side is they need regular cleaning if used in shirty conditions due to having no dust seal . If it doesn't have braided lines then it will need them as standard lines should be changed every 5 years , check the pads in it , sbs pads are good for the price , I found the galfer pads that came with my galfer disks a bit poor
