Hi everyone thought I'd take a minute to introduce myself to you all before picking at your grey matter and learning as much as possible about my bike which leads me onto my current ride 2000 plated R1 4xv totally original except the shorty levers and end can she's just hit 31k not a mint bike but I love her anyway it's not my first r1 either I did have a 2002 5jj which unfortunately came to a tragic end at the hands of a thieving little git who was more used to riding 50cc popcorn machines on the mountains after that I went through a funny phase of v twins and went through 3 aprilia's ( apriliaholic) and a rather nice tl1000r which I fell out with when the bottom end and myself couldn't agree on I've been riding roughly 20yrs but not all in one go as doubt my ass could survive that long on a seat i enjoy tinkering in my garage and not a total novice with a hammer and spanner and hope to chat with everyone and maybe from time to time put my pennies worth in

Just outside of Abergavenny didn't think of swapping over the carbs I may have to keep an eye for a cheap set soon as I've sorted out a charging fault in the bike I've only had the bike a week but then after having the apes I'm more than used to bloody electrical problems at least with the yam there's no bleeding the clutch every 6 wks and the back brake works unlike the apes

Avin-a-benny ! got a mate that lived there & used to pass through on my way to visit a mate in Brecon , some nice roads around there ;)
yeah you have to remember some of these bikes are close to 20 years old :o
the 20 pin main wiring loom connector behind rthe left hand fairing panel can be a problem , i soldered another one in from an mx5

I've been through them all and there all in good nick I posted about the fault and seems it could be the RR so fingers crossed it's that I've got a FH014AA RR of a 09 cbr1000 I'll try which I believe will work just a case of digging it out I'm also considering fitting led side light bulbs to reduce the volts used and possibly adapting a spare set of headlamps with projectors as apparently they use less volts than the standard bulbs ??

Welcome to the forum Martyn almost a perfect first post, well 9 out of 10 which is good, it was the lack of a picture that stopped it being a perfect score, but still a cracking post . Any questions just ask.

Welcome

Stephen

Welcome mate, good to have another 4xv owner here. Tapatalk won't show me the photos but I'll have a look on the PC later.

The charging system will be fine with a MOSFET RR. Mine puts out exactly 14.2 V from just off idle to 5k rpm with the headlights on. The problem I have is the 2 V drop from the battery to the headlights ...

Thanks to you all for welcoming me in and yeah there's something about the 4xv that stands out to me and without starting a rage page I have to agree the blue IS the best colour I think they only did the red for the woman ??
