Welcome to the forum Andy, please forgive our sense of humour but the term sausage to describe the cross plane crank R1's derives from the following:

Cross plane crank = Big Bang R1, sometimes known as bangers, I think you may now realise where this is going, as bangers and a name for sausages , hence the cross plane crank R1 is known as a sausage, now if we were to take it further it would be Walls after those to adverts of the 1970's where they tried to get a dog to say sausages but it kept on saying walls, and all that came about after an act on Oportunity Knocks with Hughie Green where the was a talking dog that said sausages..... Anyway you get the drift.

Welcome to the forum and join in the banter

Stephen :D
