Newbie? hmmmmm

Hi, I'm Doug and I've just bought my second 4XV. The first was new from Carnells in Liverpool in 1999, the Y2K model was out and they had about 15 of the old model in a row, £100 deposit and five years interest free. My 10 year old nephew said "you've got a hundred pounds, buy one" so I did. 85,000 miles later it was brutally murdered on the motorway by some idiot not paying attention, so it was a case of unfinished business. I've just bought a 'mint' 4XV, pardon me but mint usually means it's been washed underneath as well, or am I just picky in my old age? Anyway, the NEC provided a bag of Pro-Bolt titanium goodies, and Calsport were surprised to find they had Gilles rearsets in stock, so did me a good deal, so I'm on my way again. Well I will be once the 5mm play in the rear bearings has been sorted, did I say it was advertised as mint? Fortunately I've still got my spare wheels from the last bike, with ten year old BT020's on them, plus all the other bits I couldn't bear to get rid of, printed genuine workshop manual (we didn't have pdf manuals back then), adapters for my Abba stand, Maxton suspension link to raise the rear, etc.
Before you ask, the tyres were just to keep the rims protected, I'm not going to use them
and both bikes are/were red/white/black.
While I'm at it, the paddock stand mounts in the swingarm are 8mm on mine, I'm sure they should be 6mm. Has anyone come across this mod before? Does it weaken the mounting point?

Hi Doug, welcome to the forum.
I completely agree with you regarding peoples use of the word 'mint'.
Look forward to seeing some pictures of the old girl.
Dave.

Welcome to the forum Doug, excellent first post there. I know what you mean about things being advertised as mint, but sometimes they themselves don't really understand the word.
Fowlers parts are the best place to buy your bearings, easy website to use and sometimes next day delivery.
Get some pics up of the 4XV, we are all photo sluts on here

Welcome to the forum Duog, sorry to hear of your mishap on the motorway, I think road safety would improve if some drivers let their dog drive

. For me "mint" is something you can eat after eight
Anyway, glad you found another 4xv, oh andthose red ones are way way faster than the pesky blue ones
Welcome to the forum
Stephen
