Just a quicky to say hello. Got my new banger after years thinking my Fireblade was the bees knees... didn't know what I was missing until I test rode the R1, it's 2010 model. The ride & sound is amazing.

Welcome to the forum Rob, glad you like your new bike and as you say the sound track is the best.
So tell us about your biking history, what you liked about your fireblade and what you didn't, same with the R1, when you get her decatted she will pop and bang and will sound more amazing
Welcome
Stephen

To be fair there was nothing not to like about my old Blade, it did everything really well but had it for about 4 years and grew tired of it and needed something fresh to get my dogs barking again. So I went on the hunt and was ear marking the S1000RR or RSVR previous to my Blade, ZX10R and former R1. Then I got talking to a mate who said have you tried the Cross Plane Sausage... the rest is history. The bike is nuts, sounds amazing and for a guy of 6ft 1 fits perfectly. I don't think they make a litre bike now to fit taller peeps, they are all designed for Danni Pedrosa!!
Time will tell I guess and all the usual talked of flaws like snatchy throttle low down, initial clutch bite from stand still, & starting are common I guess but does not bother me.
I do tend to fettle bikes to make them more personal to me so a new YSP fairing kit, 'Y' pipe, flash tune, reasets, levers and carbon parts to come.

If you get the clutch judder, the mod is thoroughly recommended. It transorms the clutch operation...and pretty cheap and easy to do. There's a couple of threads on here.
I've never ridden the blade, but in comparison, I'm guessing the crossplane has bags of character.

Nice write up Rob , I must admit I did love my hondas, they were CBR 600's and like you said they did everything I asked of them, but looking back, they were bland compared to the R1, I mean the R1 just puts a grin on my face looking at it and when she fires up........ well shall we say I'm in love...... no wonder my bike says my R1 is my mistress
