2005 5vy acquired, Red, 24k on the clock. All good but needs some new rubber. Thinking of either conti road attack II or pilot power 2CT. :D

Hi Uncle.
Where did you spring from?[emoji3]
Tell us a bit about yourself. I'm a Metzler lover myself atm, M7RR as good all rounders. What do you want from them?

Welcome to the forum Tim, the lava red 5vy's are a beautiful bike, post up some pics and as the all seeing eye (hirus) says tell us about your biking history, what bike syou have had, what you liked about them, why you chose an R1, do you ride on the road, track or both? It enables us to get to know you and vice versa.

Regarding your question on which hoops to get, tyres are a very personal choice, what works for one person doesn't necessarily work for another. Personally I love the 2CTs I ran them on my 5vy and, well they were perfect for me.

Anyway welcome

Stephen :D

Welcome in sir. Do you know if the valve clearances have been checked? 24k is when it needs to be done

Congrats on the new bike - probably one of the best looking bikes to come out of Japan, especially in red.

Of the 2 tyres you've suggested, the 2CT is a sports tyre and the Conti sports-touring. It will probably feel nicer to ride on sports tyres, but you might prefer the latter if you commute.

The M7RR is the best tyre I've used.

Welcome in Tim
Cracking bikes the 5vy , you do realise that the conti road attack 2 is a sports touring tyre and the pilot power is a sports tyre ?
The conti road attack would compare to the pilot road and likewise the conti sport attack companies to the pilot power .
Hope you enjoy the bike

Thanks for the welcome and info everyone :D . OK a bit about my history. I'm a latecomer to biking as it was always something to do but the ex didn't like it. Anyway, here I am and been riding 5 years now. I'm in my early 50's. I have had several bikes, DRZ400(2), KTM525, ktm640, SV650, Kwak Ninja 636 (should have kept this) FZ6 and a very brief encounter with a daytona 675. That blew up within 300 miles so it was returned and the R1 took it's place. I'm not a fast rider but fancy having a sports bike for a while(and actually keeping it lol) and having tried a track day on the 525 fancy a go on something more fitting. I will be using the R1 for weekend rides and in the summer for evening as well, with the odd commute thrown in. I've still kept a 525 tho and like my SM wheels on it, it's so much fun to ride. I live in Essex and commute to work on a 125 scooter. I have to keep bikes in a lock up cos once the scooter is in the garage nothing else fits down the side of the car. it's a pain but I don't mind too much. Re the tyres I've done a bit more reading, I think the 2CT's are where I'm heading.

640 is quite heavy for an SM but great all rounder, not so maintenance intensive as the 525 and nowhere near as nimble but still used it for commuting and weekend blasts and it was great for all that. For pure fun the 525 all day long.

I had the Duke 2 and loved it till I road the fightered R1 and then I tried the wife's hypermotard and that was way better than the Duke , I always fancied a 450 or 525

I've got a 450 exc with moto wheels and a big brake disc, it's a hoot. Took it to Cornwall last summer, my mate couldn't get away from me on his Busa (till there was a straight..)
Lots of oil changes though!
It's a 2005, the RFS engines go lots of hours, my last one an 03, had 700 hours on it, lots of it off road and still went well.
