Hey all, just joined as I am in the process of purchasing a 98 Blue 4XV.

Been riding over 20 years and owned mostly litre bikes including RRV & RRW Blades, 955i Speed Triple & Daytona, K3 & K5 Gixer 1000's, RR9 Blade, Exup RU, Mille R, 5JJ R1 and currently 2013 675R Street Triple and restoring K3 SV650.
Need to shift the SV shortly as I am struggling for space for 3 bikes and the money would be handy to get the 4XV up to scratch.

Hopefully I'll be about here on a regular basis.
cheers
Lyn

Cheers for the welcome peeps.

Just finishing off the SV (polishing the turd) before shifting it then hopefully collecting the 4XV. Already left a deposit so just go to organise collection really either later this week or next week.

Looking forward to it now. My intention was to fettle a few bikes and flip them until I could afford to get back on a litre sports bike without having to sell the STR then this dropped into my lap.

Started with an 89 CBR1000F which I sold a few weeks back then the 03 pointy SV.

I'd be interested if you feel there's much difference between the 4xv & 5jj ?
I love the carb'd R1's .

Here was my old 5JJ. It was quite a few years ago now, maybe 2004 before I got the Mille R. Long time ago.

I'm near Bridgend fella. Place called Maesteg around 35 miles west of Cardiff.

Looks mint mate bet you wish you still had it ? Guess it's a bit too much of a gap for a comparison
My wife has ex-inlaws that we still see from time to time in Maesteg and Jen used to work in JT's , Thunder Road and years ago m&p's , you got some cracking roads round there

Yeah, I know Jen. Used to be sort of mates with Jeff her ex.
Nice girl.Tell her Lyn was asking after her. Small world eh.

I actually part ex'd the R1 in JT's against my Mille R. Now that was a toy!

You're right, maybe it is too long ago for a proper comparison but after my short ride yesterday, I don't remember the 5JJ being quite as raw as the 4XV. I know they sanitised them to make them more rideable but the 98/99 bike does seem slightly more banzai!

From what I've seen and read the early 4xv's in the UK had a 17.5 pilot jet , they didn't sell 4xv's in the states the and Australia till 99 and they and the 5jj's came with a 15 pilot jet . The difference is that you get more midrange with the 15 pilot jet which means the hit at 8-9000 rpm isn't as harsh as it is with a 17.5 pilot jet . Although i love that 8-9000 rpm hit from the 17.5 pilot jet I find the the extra midrange fits my needs more plus you still get a good 8-9000rpm hit with the 15's
