Hello Forum,
Have joined as I have brought a 2002 R1 5JJ as a project bike. Have been doing the older Japanese bikes in the past:
1980 Yamaha RD400F
1987 Kawasaki GPZ1000RX
1990 Kawasaki GPZ1000RX
1977 Suzuki GS750
My main bike now is a 2014 Kawasaki ZZR1400 :D
The R1 overall is in fairly good nick! Done 16100 miles with all the old mot to prove mileage, but no service history
Bit of a drama, of which I have looked for on the forum?
The dreaded 7000rpm exup fault
Anyway off to post about my problem on the 5JJ page :)
Regards
Little Wagon

Welcome Paul, the 4xv and 5jj are great bikes and still fast 20 years on.

Dont worry about no service history the condition of the bike will tell you a lot. I bought a 4xv lst year without a service history because it looked good and felt right, its a sound bike now ive gone over it sorting out a few niggles.

Check your charging rate, download the factory manuals to see if your in spec.

Exup which you are doing.

Go over the wiring connector blocks with some contact cleaner.

If its running fine a carb strip is prob not needed but i would get some Millers Eco Max to clean out the carb jets.

Welcome, I'm sure you'll have fun sorting and riding it. Be warned though, I bought a 4xv 5 years ago as a winter project and I still have it.

I certainly wouldn't worry about service history on a low mileage bike nearly 20 years old.
