New potential R1 owner

Hi guys,

New forum member Napa121 here and thinking I "need" an R1

I am based.in South East London/Kent borders and have an R6 and a Z1000SX.

Been riding for about 15 years like to tour and the occasional trackday.

Looking for an R1 (2015 onwards) to replace the R6.

Hope everyone had good holidays hopefully ride with some of you soon.

Welcome to the forum Nappa. R6’s are an amazing bike, I had one for 6 years (alongside an R1) they are so so light and flicable, they corner on rails. If you are looking for a 2015 R1 or onwards, you won’t be disappointed, they handle just like your R6, but with the power of a litre bike, and boy... are they powerful, the throttle on the latest R1’s is silky smooth.. and the electronics keep everything in order. I’ve had 6 R1’s and 1 R6... my 2016 R1 is by far the best bike I’ve ever had, she is such a pleasure to ride... its a privilege to own her...

Welcome to the forum and enjoy finding your perfect R1... having liked the R6... you will be really chuffed with the 2015 R1... if you budget can stand it... go fir the 2016 version, they didn’t have the gearbox issues... if you get a 2015 bike... make sure it’s had the gearbox recall

Cheers for the heads up Stephen on the 2015 recall as been reading about that. Found a site that you can enter the VIN number in to check it's been done so will Use that to double check or get a 2016 later depending on cost.

Always wanted an R1 but been a little apprehensive as I think you need to be of a certain level of rider to get one and use it in anger which I have been working towards.

Really looking forward to finding and riding one

Hi Napa and welcome mate.

The R1s are fast any one of the models from the original 4xv. But also the R6 is no slouch so if you can ride an R6 you can handle a R1 mind you the acceleration will have you grinning from ear to ear

Hi Napa,
You ride within your comfort zone.
There are no hero's ,only fools.
In my time of R1 riding,i've had guys pass me doing 60 in a 30 zone
then back down when the fast roads come along.
I've had to give best(conscience beat me) to a riders who go by blind traffic at 80 with a female on the back.
Get the R1, awesome bike and enjoy it mate

I bought my 1st R1 this year. It’s a 2018 model and I love it. Got character, is deceptively quick and I love the looks. I haven’t regretted it one bit.

Napa, as Paul aka Clarky says, you can always bimble around in an R1, it may be fast, but will only go as fast as you want it. They are actually a very easy bike to ride, you don’t have to rev it hard to get it going, like you do in your R6, you need to be gentle on the throttle and you are not constantly up and down the box.

As has been said, you can handle an R6, the R1 should not be a problem.... oh and when you get one... you will never forget your first ride... I haven’t forgotten the first time I rode my first R1[emoji3]
