Hello, (and a little issue!)

Hello, first post so here goes. Got myself a luvverly 4XV last June and apart from a battery all’s been well, however last weekend the indicator tell tale light on the dash isn’t flashing when the indicators are on. This only happens when the headlight is on, turn the lights off and the tell tale is visible. I know a little about electrical thingies and my first thought was a bad earth? Just wondering if this is a common problem and if it is a earth problem where the earth points are?
Sorry if this post is in the wrong place but I couldn’t post any where else.

Hi and welcome.
4xv wiring electrics were not up to the job when new now 20 years later they can be a nightmare.
1 check your charging
2 always use a optimate or similar between rides.
3 what is your current battery voltage
4 go through the whole wiring harness and clean every connector block. They build up residence. So fairings off seat off tank up. There is a large white connection nsf that can be a big problem
I use Wurth contact cleaner its acidic but also contains die electric grease. So it cleans thoroughly then protects but your similar choice will be fine.
By the way the connections can look fine but still built up a resistance and voltage drop
Last remove all the bulbs clean bulbs and holders
If I've missed anything Moise/Jompy will be along to let us know [emoji106]

Welcome to the forum.
I doubt it's the earth as the wiring diagram shows a common ground for the entire lighting system. I'm not sure whether any of us know where it is, so please let us know if you do find it.
Have you checked the voltages in the indicator circuit with the headlights on and off?

Definitely worth checking the big white connector behind the LH fairing panel

Thanks Moise i forgot that one
Also check charging voltage at the battery with headlights on and off, check the manual for the RPM when checking the charging system.

Perhaps the main earth is the one connected to the starter motor rear mounting bolt.

Welcome in Dave or do you prefer David ?
As said check the wiring especially the white connector and the stator wiring is a must .
Hope you enjoy the 4xv and forum
